Marvel Is Pushing the Avengers To The Limit, And Beyond

Marvel’s upcoming event, AVENGERS: ARMAGEDDON, promises a major shift for the Avengers, comparable to the impact of Avengers: Disassembled. Written by Chip Zdarsky with art by Delio Diaz and Frank Alpizar, this story builds on current storylines from Captain America, One World Under Doom, and Wolverine: Weapons of Armageddon. The saga centers around Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross, the Red Hulk, whose control of Latveria threatens the entire world and forces Earth’s heroes to unite against him.

After the epic battle, a new team of Avengers will emerge, featuring a completely original hero with incredible abilities.

Marvel has just given fans a first look at Avengers: Armageddon #1, and based on the preview, it seems the comic will definitely deliver on its epic title. Writer Al Ewing is confident it will be worth the wait when it arrives in comic shops in June 2026.

Marvel’s Avengers: Armaggedon Will Rival Avengers: Doomsday

There are a lot of heroes involved! I really enjoy writing Namor, particularly when he’s upset. It’s also been fun to write Carol Danvers, as I haven’t had many opportunities to do so in the past. And I liked Wolverine before, but writing ‘Wolverine: Weapons of Armageddon’ made me really connect with his unique voice – I’m hooked now!

Zdarsky had a good explanation for choosing Red Hulk as the main villain.

This character is essentially the Hulk, but with the strategic mind of a U.S. General and the emotional scars of being imprisoned abroad. There’s a lot of potential in that combination, especially because General Ross has a clear vision for how the world should be. The challenge is figuring out how to stop someone with that much power and planning ability.

He hinted at a complicated storyline with moments of hardship, but assured viewers that heroes will emerge. However, the challenges they face will be completely surprising. He admitted the description was unclear, but expressed immense excitement for the audience to experience the direction the story is taking.

Okay, so Marvel’s dropping a special issue, Armageddon/X-Men #1, on May 2nd – it’s Comics Giveaway Day, so keep an eye out! It’s basically a lead-in to the big Avengers: Armageddon #1 comic, and they’re saying it’s going to really set the stage for this huge new storyline. Apparently, this whole comic event is kinda leading up to the Avengers: Doomsday movie we’re getting later this year. They’re building up to something massive, both in the comics and on the big screen!
