For years, Marvel Comics has aimed to feel like a reflection of our own world – filled with familiar cities, everyday worries, and characters who seem like people we know. But if you look closely, you’ll find that the Marvel universe is anything but ordinary. Its heroes often possess incredible, even unbelievable powers, far beyond simple strength – some can even alter reality itself. It’s this contrast between the relatable and the fantastic that makes Marvel stories so captivating and has created some of the most memorable – and sometimes overwhelmingly powerful – characters in pop culture.
Marvel has a huge number of incredibly powerful heroes, but they aren’t all the same. Their powers come in many forms – from brute strength and genius-level intelligence to reality-bending magic and mutant abilities. Ranking these heroes is tough, and it’s not just about how strong they are – some are simply cooler than others. We’ve put together a list of seven of the coolest, most overpowered characters in Marvel. We’re considering how powerful they are, but also their established limits in the comics and movies. This means you might be surprised by a few of our choices – and we predict number four will be especially debated!
7) Blue Marvel

Adam Brashear is a compelling character who deserves more attention. A Cornell University football player and Marine veteran, he became incredibly powerful after attempting to capture energy from another dimension, the Negative Zone. Exposure to radiation during the process transformed him into a living anti-matter reactor with immense strength.
Blue Marvel is incredibly powerful – he’s strong enough to lift massive ships, battle the Hulk, and control energy and anti-matter, plus he can fly. He’s ranked lower on this list simply because he doesn’t appear in stories often enough.
6) The Sentry

Robert Reynolds, also known as The Sentry, is incredibly powerful – some say he rivals Superman. He’s often considered ‘overpowered’ in the Marvel Universe. He’s battled foes like the Worldbreaker Hulk and can do almost anything – absorb huge amounts of energy, teleport, fly, and more. Given his amazing and immense power, it’s surprising he isn’t ranked even higher.
Sentry’s lower ranking comes down to his weaknesses. He has a dark alter ego called The Void, and he’s also quite emotionally unstable, which limits his full power. While his emotional and mental struggles make him a compelling character, they also make him more vulnerable in battle.
5) Hope Summers

Hope Summers is an incredibly powerful mutant. She has the unique ability to copy the powers of other mutants nearby, potentially giving her an endless range of abilities. She can even boost those copied powers and, crucially, she’s connected to the powerful Phoenix Force. If she’s in the right place at the right time, she’s virtually unstoppable.
However, these limitations are why she’s ranked fifth. Hope can only copy the powers of other mutants, and her ability to do so relies on being close to them. Like any power, there’s a limit to how far her abilities reach. Despite these drawbacks, Hope remains an incredibly powerful Omega-level mutant, and the sheer variety of powers she can use is really impressive.
4) Squirrel Girl

We understand that Squirrel Girl is often seen as a bit of a joke, and some people question how powerful her abilities actually are. While she has enhanced agility, strength, a healing factor, can talk to squirrels, and has a gripping tail, it doesn’t immediately come across as an overwhelmingly powerful skillset.
Doreen, also known as Squirrel Girl, is considered “overpowered” because of her incredible winning streak. She’s famously defeated some of the most powerful villains in the Marvel Universe, like Thanos, Doctor Doom, and Galactus. Her consistent victories are why we believe she truly embodies the idea of being overpowered.
3) Jean Grey

Jean Grey is an incredibly powerful mutant, considered one of the strongest on Earth. She’s a powerful telepath and telekinetic, and has learned to control these abilities thanks to training with Professor Xavier from a young age. Adding to her power is the Phoenix Force – a cosmic entity that Jean hosts, granting her even greater abilities. This allows her to manipulate matter and energy at a fundamental level, communicate across vast distances, and her potential seems limitless.
Jean Grey is incredibly powerful, capable of almost anything except completely altering reality. However, two other characters still surpass her in terms of sheer power.
2) Scarlet Witch

Wanda Maximoff, also known as Scarlet Witch, is incredibly powerful. In the ‘House of M’ storyline, she drastically altered reality with a single act, wiping out the mutant population and stripping millions of their powers. Beyond her mastery of chaos magic, she can actually change reality itself. As a Nexus Being, she’s a formidable force, capable of even challenging cosmic-level entities, and is currently the Sorcerer Supreme.
Despite Scarlet Witch’s incredible abilities, she isn’t actually the most powerful character we’ve seen. That title belongs to someone whose power to alter reality appears limitless.
1) Franklin Richards

Franklin Richards, the son of Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman, is incredibly powerful – arguably the most powerful non-cosmic being in the Marvel Universe. He can warp reality, control matter and energy, project energy blasts, and possesses powerful mental abilities like telekinesis, telepathy, and even the ability to see the future. He can also teleport and has even been shown rewriting his own DNA. These powers are so immense that Franklin is far beyond anyone else, making him almost unbelievably strong. While a fascinating character with huge potential, he’s essentially a final boss-level threat, unlike anyone else.
