Ned Stark Actor Addresses Return in Game of Thrones Prequel

An upcoming stage production will delve deeper into the story of Ned Stark, set within the world of Game of Thrones. While it’s uncertain if this stage show will become a new prequel TV series, if it does, Robert Aramayo could reprise his role as Ned Stark.

Sean Bean famously played Ned Stark in the first season of Game of Thrones. Joseph Aramayo also portrayed a younger Ned Stark in Bran Stark’s visions later in the series. In a recent interview, Aramayo was asked if he’d consider reprising the role in a future Game of Thrones prequel. While he enjoyed playing Ned, he doesn’t expect to return to the character, as it’s been quite some time since he last did.

The Ship Has Sailed for Robert Aramayo’s Return

Aramayo admitted he was surprised by the question, saying he had a wonderful time playing Ned on Game of Thrones. It was one of his earliest roles, and he has very fond memories of the experience, though it was some time ago.

Robert Aramayo first played Ned Stark on Game of Thrones back in 2016, almost ten years ago. While that role is in the past, he’s become a prominent figure in fantasy television, currently starring as Elrond in the popular Prime Video series, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which is preparing for its third season. Aramayo has also appeared in Netflix shows like Mindhunter and Behind Her Eyes, and recently gave a compelling performance in the film I Swear, where he played John Davidson, a Scottish man living with severe Tourette syndrome.

Game of Thrones: The Mad King Debuts This Summer

The new play, currently untitled, will premiere on August 8th at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon. The story takes place in Westeros, years before the events of the original novels. It will feature younger versions of well-known characters like Ned Stark, Robert Baratheon, and Jaime Lannister. While there are no plans to adapt it into a TV series yet, the continued popularity of Game of Thrones makes that a possibility in the future.

This month marks the 15th anniversary of the original Game of Thrones series. Since then, two prequel shows have been created. The first, House of the Dragon, returns this summer for its third season, and the second, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, premiered earlier this year to positive reviews.

Game of Thrones is streaming on HBO Max.
