The Power Rangers series began with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, which lasted for three seasons. Since then, most Power Rangers seasons have followed new teams facing different villains, all connected by the morphing grid. However, there were still connections between the original teams, and 28 years ago, a new Power Rangers team arrived with a completely new leader, significantly changing the show.
Following the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the story continued with Alien Rangers and Power Rangers Zeo. This led to the movie Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie, which introduced a new team. However, we didn’t see them lead the TV series until Power Rangers Turbo. The season began with a three-part episode called Shift Into Turbo on April 19, 1997. This episode established the new Rangers and also brought a significant change: Dimitria took over leadership from Zordon.
Power Rangers Turbo Was A Changing of the Guard

The series Power Rangers Turbo went through many shifts, beginning with the introduction of Dimitria. After Zordon and Alpha 5 leave for Eltar, Dimitria takes over as the Rangers’ guide, bringing a new style of leadership. Unlike Zordon at the beginning, she can sometimes appear in person to interact with the team, and she does so when they first meet.
While she was in charge, the Power Rangers team saw several new members join. T.J. Johnson, Ashley Hammond, Carlos Valerete, and Cassie Chan became the new Red, Pink, Black, and Yellow Rangers, replacing Tommy Oliver, Tanya Sloan, Adam Park, and Katherine Hillard. Justin Stewart remained the Blue Turbo Ranger for the entire season.
The Turbo season ended on a down note for the Rangers, with major losses like the destruction of their command center at the hands of Divatox. Things took a serious turn when Zordon was captured by Dark Specter, setting the stage for Power Rangers In Space. This new season brought big changes to the Power Rangers series and ultimately delivered one of the most exciting conclusions ever seen, but we’ll save that story for another time.
