The comedy series “Overcompensating” was announced in May on the 2025 TV schedule. Unfortunately, it’s now September and we still don’t know whether it will be renewed or not. However, we have some good news! One of the show’s stars, Mary Beth Barone, has given us a sneak peek into Amazon’s potential plans for the comedy.
For approximately two months now, I’ve been among those who’ve enjoyed “Overcompensating” through my Amazon Prime subscription. The response from both fans and critics has been overwhelmingly positive, with a remarkable 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Yet, the question lingers as to why Amazon hasn’t renewed it for another season just yet. Sadly, the reason remains a mystery, even to me and the talented cast members like Mary Beth Barone, who plays Grace and is also a staff writer on the show. She recently shared some insights on Late Night with Seth Meyers, expressing her understanding of the current situation.
We don’t know yet. Amazon, they’re still deciding. It’s a real will they, won’t they.
Well, this is better than nothing, and it’s nice to know the show hasn’t been axed.
Oh Amazon, I can’t handle it any longer! I’m desperate for Season 2 of “Overcompensating”! This series, with its wild college setting and exploration of relationships formed during those years, has immense potential. The humor in Season 1 was so authentic that it left us yearning for more of this talented cast consisting of Benito Skinner, Mary Beth Barone, Wally Baram, and Holmes.
Currently, we find ourselves in a state of uncertainty, questioning whether overcompensating will be revived or ultimately end up among the list of shows terminated by 2025.

While we anticipate the renewal of “Overcompensating,” consider taking advantage of a 30-day free trial with Amazon Prime Video. This subscription not only allows you to stream Season 1 but also grants access to popular series such as “The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power,” “My Lady Jane,” and “The Boys.” Enjoy this offer and discover even more content!
Barone’s remarks are quite discouraging since I’d think that if there were any progress in the show’s renewal, she would be informed. Given their close friendship and joint podcast, Skinner, the creator of the show, is likely to share such news with her. Yet, these statements indicate that neither of them seem to have any information about whether this series will be continued or not.
It’s intriguing that neither the Hulu series “Adults,” nor the other comedy show “Overcompensating,” which both premiered in May, have been renewed yet. I find it puzzling why the streaming platforms haven’t decided on these new comedies as of now. Although I understand that such decisions often take some time, and sometimes we might need to wait months before knowing if another season is in store, both shows garnered significant attention with their relatable and amusing portrayals of coming-of-age stories. Personally, I’m eagerly awaiting news about the possibility of more episodes for both series.
Yearly, my favorite series gets axed following its first season – such as Amazon’s “My Lady Jane” in the previous year – keeps me constantly anxious for updates regarding renewals.
I have strong feelings against overcompensation, and I believe most people wouldn’t enjoy being in a ‘will they, won’t they’ scenario. Fingers crossed for swift updates on Season 2, and let’s hope it’s due to this funny series receiving additional episodes.
