Forza Horizon 6 is launching on Xbox Series X/S and PC in just under a month, and will also be available on PlayStation 5 later this year. Given how well Forza Horizon 5 performed on PlayStation, it makes you wonder if Microsoft regrets not releasing the new game on all platforms simultaneously.
Virtuos, the studio behind games like Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater and the Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, reports that the game sold over five million copies on PlayStation 5 last year. They also state it was among the best-selling games on the platform during that time.
It’s surprising how little we knew about Panic Button, Turn 10 Studios, and Playground’s work on the PlayStation 5 version of the game. Beyond contributing to environments, characters, and the Performance Mode first seen in Forza Horizon 5, they also created around 90% of the game’s incredibly realistic vehicles, including those added as downloadable content.
We’ve been seeing reports that Forza Horizon 5 has done well on PlayStation, with estimates from Alinea Analytics suggesting over five million copies were sold by last January. This is the first time a developer has publicly shared sales figures, so it’s good to be cautious, especially since Microsoft usually keeps this information private.
Forza Horizon 6 released on May 19th and quickly became popular, with over 500,000 copies sold on Steam before the official launch date.
