- So, Trezor Safe 7 snagged the 2026 Red Dot Award for product design. Who knew wallets could be fancy?
- This gizmo is all about keeping it simple, secure, and touchy-feely-with a touchscreen, no less! It’s like your old wallet went to design school.
- Funny enough, most crypto users are still clutching their exchanges like a security blanket after the FTX debacle. I mean, who doesn’t love a little trust issue?
In a groundbreaking announcement that’s sure to shake the very foundations of… well, wallet design, Trezor has proclaimed its victory in bagging the 2026 Red Dot Award for their Safe 7 hardware wallet. Yes, folks, a wallet won an award! What next, a trophy for best pair of socks?
The Red Dot Award-this isn’t just some participation trophy. It’s been around since 1955, so you know they’ve seen some serious contenders, like Apple and Ferrari. And now, a wallet is rubbing elbows with them. Great, now my wallet feels inadequate.
We invented the hardware wallet in 2013.
And here we are, 13 years later, with the Trezor Safe 7 winning design awards and being dubbed the Best Hardware Wallet of 2026. Because nothing says ‘trust me’ like a piece of tech that looks good on your shelf!
Design you can see. Security, you can read.

Apparently, Trezor claims this Safe 7 is the most popular hardware wallet out there, shipping over 2 million devices since 2014. That’s a lot of wallets! Maybe we should start a support group for all the wallets feeling neglected at the bottom of drawers.
A Wallet for Everyday Users, Because Why Not?
The Safe 7 is Trezor’s shining star right now. They say it’s built for everyone-not just the tech-savvy elite, but for the average Joe who can barely set up his TV remote. It has a haptic touchscreen because apparently, buttons are too 20th century.
Oh, and it runs on open-source software. That’s right, folks! Anyone can peek at the code. So if you were worried about shady dealings, fear not! Just remember, open-source doesn’t mean it’s always user-friendly. Sometimes it feels like reading a novel in a foreign language.
Global Recognition: It’s a Big Deal!
According to Trezor, this award was judged by about 40 design experts from around the globe. I don’t know about you, but I’d pay good money to see a room full of design experts debating the merits of a wallet.
Adam Budínský, Trezor’s head honcho of hardware, thinks this product will change how people perceive hardware wallets. Apparently, many see them as overly complex gadgets built for engineers. You know, because who wouldn’t want a wallet that requires a degree to operate?
He claims the Safe 7 aims to change that, making it feel like something you’d actually want next to your phone instead of hiding it away in shame. Quite the ambition!
Why Aren’t More People Using Hardware Wallets?
Here’s the kicker: Trezor notes that about 98% of crypto users are still playing it safe, keeping their assets on exchanges or custodial wallets. This is after FTX went belly-up, which left more trust issues than a reality dating show.
Despite the risks, folks are still reluctant to switch to hardware wallets. They’re worried about losing recovery phrases, afraid of convoluted setup processes, and let’s face it, many designs are about as intuitive as assembling IKEA furniture.
Budínský also mentioned that people think open-source means “rough around the edges.” But hey, apparently now you can have rock-solid security and look good doing it, so maybe we’re living in the future after all!
