Wizards of the Coast has started its own live-play Dungeons & Dragons show called Dungeon Masters. The first episodes, which began on April 22nd, introduce a new story based on the upcoming Ravenloft: The Horrors Within sourcebook. While the book isn’t officially released until June, fans can get a sneak peek at the content by watching Dungeon Masters. To further celebrate the show’s launch, a free adventure based on The Horrors Within is now available on D&D Beyond.
In addition to its new live-play show, Dungeons & Dragons is offering “play-along packs.” These packs will be released with each new episode, giving fans a sneak peek at official, unreleased content from the Ravenloft: The Horrors Within campaign. While most of this extra content requires pre-ordering the new sourcebook, the very first adventure is free and available now.
New Ravenloft Play-Along Pack Gives D&D Fans a First Look At The Horrors Within
Want to get a taste of the new horror elements coming to Dungeons & Dragons before pre-ordering The Horrors Within? You have a few choices! The new character classes were first released as a free preview on D&D Beyond, and that’s still available. Now, you can also try out a free adventure featuring monsters and locations from the upcoming book. This free adventure is the only one anyone with a free D&D Beyond account will get—the rest will be released weekly for those who pre-order. If you enjoy horror and short D&D adventures you can finish in one night, this is definitely something to check out.
A free Dungeons & Dragons adventure called “Zombie Clot” is now available on D&D Beyond. You can get it by going to the website and finding it in the Sources/Library section under the title Dungeon Masters: Ravenloft Play-Along Free Pack. This adventure draws content from the upcoming Ravenloft sourcebook and was created based on Dungeon Master Jasmine Bhullar’s preparation for the Dungeon Masters premiere. If you use Maps VTT for your games, the adventure is also available there.
Zombie Clot is an adventure designed for characters who are level 5. It’s set in the village of Hroth and centers around fighting the undead. The adventure includes a quick introduction to get players started, a map of the village, and information on several Zombie creatures featured in The Horrors Within. Dungeon Masters looking for new horror monsters will find these updated Zombies ready to use.
This free adventure is brief, consisting of just one encounter. But with the included story setup and ending, you could easily expand it into a complete and enjoyable horror session for your players. Even if you don’t expand it, it’s a good look at some of the creatures coming in the Ravenloft: The Horrors Within book, which releases on June 16th.
