Season four of Invincible has concluded, and the final episode dramatically alters Mark Grayson’s world. With the Viltrumite Empire facing collapse after a devastating war, Thragg and his army have arrived on Earth. Surprisingly, instead of seeking revenge on humanity, the Viltrumites are focused on a new path forward. While the finale differed from many episodes this season, fans are still ranking it among the best of season four.
The biggest surprise in the fourth season of Invincible was the dramatic shift away from constant fighting and violence. Aside from Mark’s disturbing visions of the Viltrumites’ plans for Earth – particularly gruesome scenes of his friends and family being harmed – the finale was remarkably peaceful, despite the lingering tension with Thragg. The Viltrumite Empire now resides on Earth, aiming to rebuild their population by interbreeding with humans, inspired by Nolan’s success with Mark. Fans are widely applauding this unexpected and character-focused approach to the season’s conclusion.

Mark finally understood Thragg was real, not just a hallucination, and the moment was incredibly epic! #Invincible #InvincibleSeason4

I just finished the Invincible season finale, and wow, it was incredible! The episode really hit its stride, especially during Eve’s emotional confession. Mark’s internal struggle felt so real throughout, and that final scene with Thragg was just brilliantly executed. I’m already counting down the days until season five!

The Future of Invincible

Amazon Prime Video has greenlit a fifth season of Invincible, and work on continuing Mark Grayson’s story is already underway. While the Viltrumite Empire and Earth have reached a fragile peace, these alien conquerors will still be important to the plot, likely in surprising ways. According to Invincible’s creator, Robert Kirkman, future seasons will come out more quickly, so we might see the fifth season on the streaming service as early as next year.
While we won’t spoil anything, the Invincible comics hint at what’s next for the show. Based on those comics, the villain Dinosaurus will likely be more important after appearing in season four. Plus, fans might see Robot and Monster Girl again, as they haven’t been seen since the battle with the Flaxan empire earlier this season.
Despite some initial concerns, most fans have enjoyed the fourth season of Invincible, though one episode has sparked debate. Episode four, titled “Hurm,” presented a completely new story not found in the original comics, sending Mark to the underworld to help Damien Darkblood and even Satan. While this episode could open up new story possibilities for the show, it’s still unclear if the fan reaction will influence future plans for Invincible.
