Netflix had a fantastic 2025, boosted by both returning favorites like Stranger Things and Wednesday, and new series such as Adolescence and The Four Seasons. The platform saw high viewership and positive reviews for its original shows, and many of those successful series are continuing into 2026. A particularly well-received new show from 2025 was a funny sports comedy, which has now returned for a second season.
Mindy Kaling’s Running Point is back for a second season! All 10 episodes dropped on Netflix on April 23rd, perfect for binge-watching. The show, which blends the heartwarming feel of Ted Lasso with the empowering spirit of Girlboss, stars Kate Hudson as a woman who unexpectedly becomes president of the LA Waves basketball team. She has to work hard to convince everyone – her family, the team owners, and the world of sports – that she’s up to the challenge.
Netflix’s Running Point Is a 10/10 Sports Comedy
You might have missed Running Point on Netflix in 2025, but it’s a show you should definitely watch. While it’s set in the world of sports and is often funny, it’s more than just a sports comedy. The series dives into real issues like difficult families, troubled relationships, and distrust of big business, all while keeping you entertained with quick, clever dialogue. With a compelling story and a fantastic performance from the lead actor, Hudson, Running Point received high marks – 79% from critics and 81% from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes – and was quickly renewed for a second season, just a week after it first aired.
While it’s too soon for widespread reviews, early reactions to Season 2 have been generally positive. Peter Gray of The AU Review believes the season suggests the show has staying power, and Breeze Riley from Multiverse of Color notes it successfully continues a strong formula. As the season progresses, Isla faces challenges both on and off the field, juggling her career goals with romantic interests and family dynamics in a compelling new installment.
Will There Be a Running Point Season 3?
Honestly, whether or not Running Point gets a Season 3 is still a question mark. I know Season 2 is going to leave everyone wanting more, but Netflix hasn’t officially given the green light yet. That’s pretty typical, though – they usually wait a bit before making a decision. In fact, they didn’t renew the show for Season 2 until a week after it started! So, it really comes down to how people are responding to the new season and how many of us are actually watching. Those numbers will likely decide its fate.
