As a huge Mass Effect fan, I’ve been eagerly awaiting news about the next game! BioWare announced they’d started working on it a while back, but things have been pretty quiet since then. Recently, Michael Gamble, who’s leading the franchise, explained the silence. Basically, they’ve been heads-down, completely focused on making the game the best it can be, and haven’t had much time to share teasers or updates. It’s good to know they’re prioritizing the game itself, even if it means we have to be patient!
When a fan asked why the studio hadn’t been posting much, Gamble explained they were simply hard at work and didn’t have time to share sneak peeks.
The last official hints about the game came during last year’s N7 Day event, when BioWare shared artwork suggesting a conflict within the Krogan species. Although the artwork didn’t reveal much, BioWare’s Mike Gamble stated that everything shown during past N7 Day celebrations would eventually tie together.
In January, a job posting hinted that BioWare was still secretly developing Mass Effect 5. The listing was for a senior production director, who would report directly to a BioWare executive, and the ideal candidate needed to be passionate about the Mass Effect universe. The position also required significant experience with big-budget, high-quality games, and a strong background in action RPG and RPG game development.
As a key part of the team, I’ll be working super closely with the creative directors, the developers, and everyone involved – both inside and outside the studio – to really make sure the game’s original idea shines through and looks amazing. Basically, I’m here to be a player advocate! I’ll be using my understanding of what makes games fun, especially competitive ones, and focusing on building a strong, collaborative team. I’m all about mentoring people and making sure we’re using the best possible methods to create something truly special.
I’m really excited for the next Mass Effect game, but honestly, we don’t know much about the story yet! It’s crazy to think that even Jennifer Hale, who was the voice of female Shepard, doesn’t know if she’ll be back for this one. It makes me wonder what direction they’re going in, but I’m still hoping for something amazing!
Hale admitted he doesn’t know if Commander Shepard will appear in future games. He encouraged fans who want to see Shepard return to contact BioWare directly and let them know, suggesting that fan feedback might influence their decision. He personally would be thrilled if Shepard made an appearance, but he has no inside information.
Mike Darrah, a former producer on the game Anthem, previously mentioned that the sci-fi RPG would probably take a significant amount of time to release. This was due to BioWare shifting its focus to working on just one project at a time.
The team working on the next Mass Effect game learned from past mistakes – specifically, what happened when staff from the Dragon Age series were moved to Anthem. This time, it’s a win-win situation, according to one developer. While this new approach isn’t without its challenges, they’re different from the problems the studio faced before. Previously, multiple projects were competing for the same resources, which caused conflicts and unintended consequences. Now, the entire team is focused solely on Mass Effect, and that’s a positive change.
just busy workin. not a lot of time for tease.
