The survival thriller Apex, starring Charlize Theron, quickly became the most popular movie on Netflix globally, just one day after its release. While reviews were mixed, viewers around the world tuned in, making it the No. 1 film in 86 countries, including the U.S., UK, and Canada.

Okay, so Alexander Bana isn’t the main character in Apex, he plays Sasha’s husband, Tommy, and it’s a smaller role. But honestly, his character’s death is huge – it’s the thing that really kicks the whole plot into gear and changes everything. It’s a surprisingly vital part of the story, even though he doesn’t have a ton of screen time.

Although Apex is popular on streaming platforms, critics had a mixed reaction. It currently has a 67% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 51 reviews – enough to be considered “fresh,” but not high enough to earn the “Certified Fresh” label, which requires a score of 75% or higher. Viewers also gave the film a lukewarm response, with a 56% approval rating, even though they generally liked the main actors.

In addition to Charlize Theron and Eric Bana, Taron Egerton—known for his work in Carry-On—plays the serial killer in Apex. The film was directed by Baltasar Kormákur, who also directed Everest, and the screenplay was written by Jeremy Robbins.

What’s Next for Untamed?

I was hooked from the start with this show! It originally began as a short, contained story set in the beautiful Yosemite National Park. The main character, Kyle Turner, played by Eric Bana, was investigating this mysterious woman’s death while also battling his own issues. It really took off as a limited series on streaming, and thankfully, Netflix decided there was enough interest to turn it into a full-fledged show!

Season 2 is currently being filmed, with Eric Bana returning as Kyle Turner. At the end of the first season, Kyle solved the case but realized he needed to move on to find peace after his son’s death in the park. The new season will take place at a different location: Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park in Hawaii.

Season 2 will feature actor Ray Burkart as a grieving father, Ray Burkart, who comes into conflict with Turner during the investigation of his son’s murder. Kellu Hu joins the cast as Awapuhi, a native of Hawaii’s Big Island who has been struggling with personal issues. After a family tragedy, she returns home to confront her past.
