Okay, as a huge fan, I’m seriously hyped about everything happening with The Lord of the Rings right now. It’s already a franchise I adore, and it feels like there’s even more awesome stuff coming – a new movie and a bunch of games are in the works! The coolest part? There’s a new Lord of the Rings game coming out that’s going to cover the entire trilogy, and it’s being built on a game system I already love. Seriously, this is a dream come true!
Fans of The Lord of the Rings are getting a new game called The Lord of the Rings: Ascension. It combines the beloved world of Middle-earth with the deckbuilding gameplay of Ascension. Players can team up—or play solo—as they journey through three sets of cards inspired by the The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King. The game will be available on Gamefound later this year, and you can find a preview below.
Everything We Know About The Lord of the Rings: Ascension

We’ve gotten a first look at the art for The Lord of the Rings: Ascension, and a really impressive aspect is its completely original art style. The heroes, like Gandalf, Samwise, and Legolas, have a traditional animated feel, while characters like Gollum and the Orcs are designed to be genuinely creepy. This contrast immediately makes the game visually distinct from other Lord of the Rings titles.
Stone Blade Entertainment launched Ascension in 2010, and the game has been growing and improving ever since. The enjoyable deckbuilding gameplay remains central, and it’s now even more engaging with the beloved characters and setting of The Lord of the Rings.
While creating your deck, you can gather allies from the Free Peoples of Middle-earth, including famous heroes, and add strong cards to your strategy. You’ll have to do all this while avoiding the temptation of the One Ring. The game follows the epic story of The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King across three different sets, allowing you to build your team and go on adventures through each part of the journey.
I’m so excited for The Lord of the Rings: Ascension! It’s launching on Gamefound this summer, and I’ll be sure to share the exact release date as soon as it’s announced. You can check out the campaign page right here – I’ve already bookmarked it!
