After creative director Clint Hocking left, Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe has now also lost its game director, Benoit Richer. Richer, who previously directed Batman: Arkham Origins, only joined the project last January, making his time with it relatively brief.
Richer is starting a new role as game director at the indie studio Servo Games, as he announced on LinkedIn. He described the team as experienced professionals who share a common vision for creating games and have skills that complement each other. While more information will be released soon, this news may worry fans anticipating the game Hexe.
Jonathan Hocking departed following Jean Guesdon’s appointment as head of content for the Assassin’s Creed franchise at Vantage Studios. Guesdon is well-regarded for his contributions to several popular games in the series, including his work as a co-director on Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, which Ubisoft Singapore is remaking this July. It’s unclear if disagreements between Guesdon and either Hocking or Richer led to the departure, as there have been no public reports of conflict.
Currently known as Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe, the next installment in the series is expected around the 2027 holiday season, though an official release date hasn’t been announced. According to insider information, this game will offer a different experience than previous Assassin’s Creed titles, with a focus on a darker tone and a strong story. Reports suggest the game will be set in 17th-century Germany during the time of the witch trials.
The game reportedly lets you play as Elsa, a witch who joins forces with the Assassins. However, her motivations for doing so are currently a mystery. Keep an eye out for future updates and more information.
