Following some game removals and server closures in March and April, things are looking much calmer on the PlayStation Store for the next few months.
Naturally, there are usually a few things you should keep in mind.
Here’s the upcoming schedule of potential disruption you should know about:
- Pinball FX3 (PS4): TBC May (Hidden from PS Store)
- Rec Room (PS5, PS4): 1st May (In-Game Purchases Disabled); 1st June (Online Services Disabled)
- Battlefield Hardline (PS4): 22nd May (Delisted); 22nd June (Online Services Disabled)
- Pinball FX (PS4): 1st June (Support Ending)
- Pinball M (PS4): 1st June (Support Ending)
- Horizon Chase Turbo (PS4): 1st June (Delisted)
This isn’t a shutdown of any major games or servers; how it impacts you will depend on which games you play.
We’re beginning to see some smaller games stop being released for the PlayStation 4, as it’s been on the market for nearly 13 years.
The situation with Pinball FX is an example of that, and a quite complicated one actually.
So, here’s the deal with Pinball FX3: it’s going to disappear from the PlayStation Store in May, but don’t freak out – it’s not being deleted completely. Zen Studios hasn’t said exactly when it’ll happen, but just know it won’t be available to buy anymore after a certain point. I’m still going to be able to play the tables I already own, thankfully!
The game and all its downloadable content will still be available for current players to enjoy and buy, but new players won’t be able to discover or purchase it – it’s essentially being removed from storefronts for them.
Pinball FX and Pinball FX Midnight (formerly Pinball M) will continue to be available for purchase on the PlayStation Store. However, starting June 1st, neither game will receive any further downloadable content or updates.
The PS5 versions will be unaffected aside from the aforementioned name change.
Starting May 1st, you won’t be able to buy anything within the Rec Room game. The game will then be completely shut down on June 1st. This applies to all platforms, including PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation VR.
Battlefield Hardline will no longer be available for purchase on PlayStation 4 starting May 22nd. While you won’t be able to buy the game after that date, online servers will stay active for another month. These servers will then be shut down completely on June 22nd. The PS3 version of the game is already unavailable.
I was really bummed to hear that Horizon Chase Turbo is getting pulled from the PlayStation Store on June 1st. It’s a shame after all the recent layoffs at Epic Games. Thankfully, if you already own the game – or any of the DLC like the Senna Forever pack – you still get to keep playing it. And good news for fans of the sequel – Horizon Chase 2 isn’t affected at all on either the PS5 or PS4!
That covers everything important for now. We’ll continue to monitor the situation and let you know if anything changes or if any more items are removed.
