As you’d expect from a good spy story, ITV’s new series, Secret Service – created by journalist and author Tom Bradby – isn’t set in just one place.
Although the show includes the expected secret headquarters with halls and corridors, it also takes you around the world. The five-episode series begins with Gemma Arterton’s character, Kate, embarking on an international assignment.
Where was the show, featuring Rafe Spall, Alex Kingston, and Mark Stanley, actually filmed? And what have the people involved said about the places where it was shot?
Read on for everything you need to know about the filming locations used for Secret Service.
Where was Secret Service filmed?

Most of the movie Secret Service was filmed in London, but some scenes—those taking place on the island—were shot in Malta.
Locations used around Malta included Valletta, Birgu, Isla and Dingli.
The series was filmed in spring 2025.
What have the team behind Secret Service said about filming in Malta?

During a recent discussion about the series, director James Marsh shared some of the challenges the crew experienced while filming in Malta.
Working with a limited budget meant we were constantly up against the clock and dealing with difficult lighting conditions each day. It wasn’t a terrible experience, though. I thought the production was well-managed and organized, and we weren’t rushed through anything.
Gemma Arterton shared that she actually enjoys working under pressure. She joked that she probably shouldn’t admit it, but she thrives when things are a little challenging. She explained that director Paul Marsh often seemed pleasantly surprised by how well things turned out, likely because he wasn’t expecting them to.

I wasn’t expecting much to begin with,” Marsh explained. “So, it wasn’t a major problem, at least not visually. It was challenging at times, but overall, it wasn’t terrible.
According to executive producer Gail Egan, the production benefited from a highly skilled and efficient crew, as well as a great cast who worked quickly. Director Edgar Wright agreed, emphasizing that the crew’s strong organization was key to the project’s success.
Secret Service starts Monday 27 April at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
