British TV legend Nicola Walker’s much-anticipated “messy” anti-romantic comedy confirms release date

The comedy-drama series Alice & Steve, starring British television favorite Nicola Walker and New Zealand comedian Jemaine Clement, will premiere on Disney+ on a confirmed date.

The story centers on Alice Walker, who is shocked to learn her best friend, Steve Clement, is now dating her daughter, Izzy (played by Yali Topol Margalith, known from ‘A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder’). Izzy is nearly thirty years younger than Steve.

The surprising news completely crushes Alice, and it looks like she’s about to lose both her best friend and her daughter at the same time. However, she’s determined to do everything she can to prevent that from happening.

Disney+’s description of the story reveals that Alice attempts to break things off with Steve. However, Steve is prepared for her actions, and their once-friendly connection quickly turns into a bitter rivalry.

You can watch all six episodes of Alice and Steve on Disney+ starting Monday, June 8, 2026, to find out what happens.

The new series, Alice and Steve, comes from Sophie Goodhart, who previously wrote for Sex Education. Tom Kingsley, known for his work on Stath Lets Flats, directed the show. The first two episodes were shown at Canneseries, a well-respected television festival in France, this past weekend.

Disney is calling the new series an “anti-romantic comedy” – or even a “wrong-com” – and early photos suggest the three main characters are about to experience major life changes.

Jemaine Clement became famous as one half of the comedy musical duo Flight of the Conchords, alongside Bret McKenzie. He’s also known for his work on shows like What We Do in the Shadows, and films including Moana, The Minecraft Movie, and the recent Avatar sequels.

Walker is a very well-known actor on British television, thanks to his roles in popular series like Spooks, Last Tango in Halifax, Unforgotten, The Split, and Annika.

The show stars both Topol Margalith, a rising talent, and Joel Fry, known for his comedic roles in shows like W1A, Plebs, and Our Flag Means Death.

Walker expressed excitement about joining the new series, praising the creator, Sophie Goodhart, for building a wonderful world full of friendship, family, romance, and dramatic twists. He also shared his joy at being able to work alongside Jemaine Clement.

Clement said he feels a connection with Steve, describing him as sophisticated, fashionable, and generally a good person, though not always. He’s also thrilled to be collaborating with Nicola Walker and to explore the dramatic unraveling of the relationship between Steve and Alice.

Alice & Steve is coming to Disney+ on Monday 8 June 2026. Sign-up to Disney+ from £5.99 a month.
