Matlock Star Wants a Tracker Crossover After the Explosive Season 3 Finale

Jason Ritter, a key actor in Kathy Bates’ new show, has expressed interest in a crossover event with the series starring Justin Hartley. Ritter, who plays Julian Markston on Matlock, shared that he’d love to see the two shows connect through a shared storyline.

In a recent interview with Us Weekly, actor Paul Ritter shared that he’s close friends with Justin Baldoni and expressed interest in a potential crossover storyline between their shows. Ritter described Baldoni as a “really nice guy” and suggested a fun collaboration: Julian Beck, his character, could teach Baldoni’s character tracking skills, while Ritter’s character could help Beck locate people.

Matlock Star Reveals Potential Story for Tracker Crossover

Both Matlock and Tracker have been hits for CBS. Tracker is currently in its third season, and Matlock has been renewed for a third season, expected to premiere later this year. The season two finale of Matlock, which aired on April 23rd, suggests the show will continue.

Ryan Ritter has mentioned the possibility of a crossover between his two popular shows before. Back in August 2025, he jokingly suggested to Us Weekly that a storyline could involve Julian leaving his job and starting over, imagining a scenario with ‘just two rugged guys.’

Skye P. Marshall wasn’t convinced by the idea of Jason Ritter playing a tough character, but she thought the crossover episode was a good move overall. She joked that his character seemed more likely to be the one needing rescuing, and playfully pleaded with producers not to arm him with a gun.

Ritter admitted his character wouldn’t last long in a dangerous situation. He joked that if he were in trouble, he’d quickly be overwhelmed and need rescuing, saying, ‘I’d be captured immediately and make the mission much harder.’ He added with a laugh that he’s skilled at playing someone who needs help.

According to Us Weekly, Justin Hartley might next play a character who needs rescuing, with Brett Ritter potentially as the one he saves. Ritter jokingly agreed, saying, “There you go. Anytime, Justin.”

Tracker’s Season 3 Finale Arrives This May

A crossover between Matlock and Tracker is likely still a ways off, as the shows aren’t currently airing simultaneously on CBS. Tracker premiered in October 2025 with nine episodes before pausing for the holidays in December. New episodes returned on March 1, 2026, and the season is now 18 episodes into its planned 22-episode run.

I’m really excited – new episodes of Tracker Season 3 are coming to CBS every Sunday until May 24th! I just heard CBS is giving us a little sneak peek of the finale, ‘The Best Ones,’ where Colter and Russell will be looking for someone caught up in some shady research. They’re keeping most of the details under wraps for now, which just makes me want to watch even more!

Tracker Season 3 is now airing Sundays on CBS. Matlock Season 3 is expected to arrive later this year.
