Coronation Street airs major Carl Webster and Ronnie Bailey twist in early ITVX release

Carl Webster, played by Jonathan Howard, narrowly escaped a dangerous situation on Coronation Street tonight, but his troubles may be far from over.

The deceitful character is likely to be the victim in this week’s ‘Murder Week’ episodes, and many people in Weatherfield wouldn’t be upset to see him gone.

Debbie, Carl’s mother (played by Sue Devaney), was wrongly accused by him of dangerous driving, leading to a prison sentence. Recently, Debbie’s husband, Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan), physically attacked Carl, and Carl then tried to blackmail Debbie into giving him the hotel.

She worried Ronnie would be taken away and called Carl to her apartment to make a firm demand. She offered him money if he agreed to cut all contact, but warned him he wouldn’t receive the hotel as well.

Debbie wished to remember only the good times with him. Because her dementia was getting worse, she worried seeing him would bring up painful memories of his past mistakes.

Carl was incredibly angry, even though he took the money, and returned to his hotel room where he deliberately damaged it and left the faucets running. This caused significant damage to the wedding of Carla and Lisa Connor-Swain (played by Alison King and Vicky Myers), which was happening in the room directly below and was flooded as a result.

Today on the show, with Carl preparing to return to Germany, Debbie revealed to Ronnie and her brother Kevin that she’d given Carl £2,000. While they were upset about the money, they were relieved the family might finally have some peace and quiet.

They had no idea, but Carl was actually very close by. He’d found Abi Webster in the garage and invited her for one last drink together.

She really didn’t want to spend time with him, but Abi hoped talking to Carl might finally help her move on from a difficult year. Their conversation felt necessary, considering she had been unfaithful to her husband, Kevin, with Carl.

Kevin quickly arrived and told his nephew to do what Debbie asked and go. Carl, still enjoying his drink, saw a chance to upset Fiz and Tyrone by reminding them that he wasn’t going to prison after all for hitting Tyrone with his car.

He unexpectedly encountered Theo Silverton, his abuser, and impulsively suggested they share a hotel room before his flight. Theo was repulsed by the suggestion, and a fight broke out between them.

Kevin saw a fight break out across the street and quickly intervened, snatching the envelope of money Debbie had just given to Carl. He told Carl good luck, then secretly texted someone to confirm he now possessed the cash.

Honestly, Carl was in a really dark place. He just wandered back to the Street, and I heard he practically finished off a whole bottle of whisky in the garage. Then, things got seriously scary – he actually went under Kevin’s car while it was up on the lift and started messing with the brakes. It was a shocking thing to hear, and you could tell he was completely lost and desperate.

Carl, always scheming, found himself in trouble when a mysterious person deliberately disabled the car lift, causing Kevin’s car to fall. It looked for a moment like Carl might be seriously hurt, but the surprise ending revealed him simply unconscious inside Ronnie’s vehicle.

What will Ronnie do to him?
