James Gunn pauses movie plans for key DC film – but two TV series are still in the works

James Gunn has shared updates on several DC projects, stating that the TV series Booster Gold and Paradise Lost are still being developed. However, work on the The Authority movie has been temporarily put on hold.

Gunn and Peter Safran first revealed their vision for the new DC Universe – including both movies and TV shows – back in January 2023, and these projects are the result of those plans.

James Gunn announced on Threads on Monday, April 27th, that the Booster Gold series is being developed, and the Paradise Lost project is even further along in the process.

Gunn also revealed that The Authority has been shelved for now.

He admitted the script needed work, but the bigger issue was that it didn’t fit into the overall DC Universe, either narratively or logistically. He doesn’t foresee it happening anytime soon.

The Authority was a comic book series that began in 1992, featuring a group of superheroes known for their unconventional and often drastic approaches to crimefighting.

The upcoming series, Booster Gold, is being described as a comedic take on the superhero genre, starring the main character—a hero who can travel through time.

Paradise Lost is planned to be an origin story for the Amazons of Themyscira.

When the show was first announced, Safran described it as similar to Game of Thrones, explaining it would be a story centered on Themyscira, the Amazonian home of Wonder Woman. He emphasized that the drama would focus on the political complexities and power struggles within this all-female society, and how it came to be.

Gunn wondered about the good and bad realities of the situation, and what secret plans the most powerful people were making.
