The 10 Most Dangerous Alternate-Reality Spider-Man Villains, Ranked by Threat Level

The most dangerous enemies Spider-Man faces aren’t always from his own universe. Across the multiverse, there are rulers and predators who control entire Earths, making his usual villains seem minor in comparison. These threats aren’t simply different versions of familiar faces; they often endanger the entire multiverse, originating from places like Loomworld and Battleworld. They represent a danger not just to Spider-Man, but to all spider-powered beings. And it’s not always about raw power – sometimes, even someone like a lawyer who becomes Kingpin can be a bigger threat than the strongest supervillains.

This list showcases the most formidable villains from different Spider-Verse realities, including one who succeeded in killing Spider-Man.

10) Olivia Octavius (Earth-1610B)

Olivia Octavius, the Doctor Octopus from the animated Into the Spider-Verse universe, is arguably more dangerous than the classic version. As the CEO and lead scientist of Alchemax on Earth-1610B, she works for Wilson Fisk, giving her significant resources. She actually built the Super-Collider that threatened to destroy the entire multiverse – making her the real mastermind behind Fisk’s schemes. She wasn’t defeated by Miles Morales or Peter B. Parker due to any weakness of her own, but because of a malfunction with the Super-Collider itself; she proved too powerful for them to handle even when working together.

9) Ultimate Venom (Earth-1610)

In the Ultimate Marvel Universe, several characters have hosted the Venom symbiote, but Eddie Brock Jr. was the primary one. Unlike the main Marvel storyline, this Venom wasn’t an alien weapon; it was originally created on Earth as a potential cancer cure. However, the symbiote proved incredibly dangerous, transforming Eddie into a powerful and violent killer. Ultimate Venom was significantly stronger than Spider-Man, able to overwhelm his spider-sense, and ultimately became one of the two most formidable villains Spider-Man faced in that universe.

8) Matt Murdock (Earth-65)

It’s unusual to see a lawyer without superpowers ranked among Spider-Man’s greatest foes, but this is Matt Murdock from Earth-65. Instead of becoming the hero Daredevil, he became Spider-Gwen’s main enemy and eventually took over from Wilson Fisk as the Kingpin of Crime. Like the Daredevil we know, this version of Matt Murdock was trained by Stick, but he went much further – he killed the assassins who murdered Stick, took control of the Hand organization, and then defeated Fisk to become the most dangerous crime lord in his world. He’s ruthless and doesn’t fight fair, even blackmailing Spider-Gwen by exploiting her family’s personal issues.

7) Alchemax (Earth-928)

Alchemax stands out as a unique Spider-Man villain. Instead of a single enemy Spider-Man can fight, it’s a massively powerful corporation. This story takes place in the Marvel 2099 universe (Earth-928). Spider-Man 2099, Miguel O’Hara, actually used to work for Alchemax, and they’re responsible for him gaining his powers. The company essentially runs Nueva York, using a private police force to constantly watch everyone. Miguel’s father, Tyler Stone, works for Alchemax and played a key role in Miguel becoming Spider-Man. Unlike a typical villain, Spider-Man 2099 couldn’t simply defeat Alchemax – he had to infiltrate and take control of it from within.

6) Fury (Earth-982)

Fury, the Goblin Queen, comes from the MC2 comic universe, the same world as Spider-Girl (Mayday Parker). She’s actually Élan DeJunae, a woman raised by a cult devoted to the original Green Goblin, Norman Osborn. As a child, they promised her to Norman Osborn’s son, Normie, and exposed her to the Goblin Formula, intending to mold her into Normie’s queen. However, Fury ended up being the one with the real power, forcing Normie to merge with the Venom symbiote. Ultimately, she became a major tormentor to Mayday, mirroring the way Norman Osborn tormented Spider-Man.

5) Shathra (Earth-001)

Shathra is a goddess with the power of a wasp, originating from Loomworld (also known as Earth-001) – the home of the Inheritors. Originally meant to create the “Great Nest,” she was passed over when her sister, Neith, was chosen instead, gaining power through the Web of Life and Destiny in spider mythology. Shathra first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #46 as part of “The Life and Death of Spiders” storyline, disguising herself as a human to try and destroy Spider-Man from the inside. A major Spider-Man villain of the 2000s, she’s incredibly powerful and exists across multiple universes, making her impossible to defeat through strength alone – Spider-Man has to rely on his intelligence to win.

4) Regent (Earth-18119)

Regent, originally from the comic series Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows, comes from Earth-18119, a reality first shown during the 2015 Secret Wars storyline. Also known as Augustus Roman, he uses a special suit with a Neuro-Transmuter. This technology allows him to steal and use the superpowers of anyone he imprisons in his jail, called the Cellar. In the past, he defeated and even injured major heroes like the Avengers, the New Warriors, and the Hulk. He especially wanted Spider-Man’s spider-sense. Because of these victories, Regent is considered one of the most dangerous villains on Battleworld.

3) Ultimate Green Goblin (Earth-1610)

The Ultimate Green Goblin achieved something remarkable – he actually killed Peter Parker. Although Peter was eventually brought back to life, the ‘Death of Spider-Man’ storyline remains a significant event in the Ultimate Marvel universe. This version of Norman Osborn obsessively experimented with the OZ formula, transforming himself into a terrifying monster, far beyond a simply enhanced human. His success in killing Spider-Man and paving the way for Miles Morales to become the new Spider-Man was unprecedented among alternate-reality villains.

2) Morlun (Earth-001)

Morlun first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #30, created by J. Michael Straczynski and John Romita Jr., and quickly became one of Marvel’s most dangerous Spider-Man villains from alternate realities. He’s a relentless hunter who feeds on the life force of heroes and villains connected to animal spirits, ensuring his own power never weakens. Once he targets someone, escape is impossible. He famously demonstrated his strength in the acclaimed “The Other” storyline, inflicting a severe beating on Spider-Man and even costing him an eye. Spider-Man only survived by tapping into his primal spider instincts and using newfound powers to critically injure Morlun. However, Morlun has since returned, continuing to pose a threat to all Spider-People across the multiverse.

1) Solus (Earth-001)

Solus is an even greater threat than Morlun, a well-known Spider-Man villain. As the leader of the Inheritors—the family Morlun belongs to—Solus originated the clan on Earth-001 and first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #9 during the “Spider-Verse” storyline. He’s essentially immortal, never ages, and can’t get sick. Solus is incredibly strong, capable of defeating even a Spider-Man empowered by the Enigma Force, which he actually consumed. Uniquely among the Inheritors, he doesn’t need to drain life force from Spider-Totems to stay alive, but chooses to do so. Despite being the most powerful Inheritor, Solus was ultimately killed by Miles Morales, who, as Captain Universe, used the Sword Vigor to defeat him. This was a crucial victory, as Solus had been previously unstoppable and cannot be brought back to life.
