This month, Prime Video will release its new family saga, The House of the Spirits. All episodes will be available on the streaming service quickly, rolling out throughout April and May.

As a film buff, I’m really excited about this series! It’s adapted from Isabel Allende’s novel and tells the story of three incredible women – Clara, Blanca, and Alba – across generations. The story unfolds in a South American country dealing with a lot of change, from social inequalities to political drama, all woven together with a touch of magical realism. It sounds absolutely captivating!

As a big movie fan, I was really intrigued by this book. It spans fifty years and reminded me a lot of Gabriel García Márquez’s One Hundred Years of Solitude, which, funnily enough, Netflix just turned into a series. It’s cool to see similar vibes being explored on screen by different platforms!

This isn’t the first time someone has tried to adapt ‘The House of the Spirits’ for the screen. A previous attempt in 1982, featuring stars like Meryl Streep, Antonio Banderas, Glenn Close, and Jeremy Irons, didn’t quite succeed.

While the actors in the Prime Video adaptation might not be as famous worldwide just yet, Isabel Allende, the author of the original story, believes they’ve done a better job of bringing it to life on screen.

The author, also an executive producer with Eva Longoria, explained that the new version of the story finally realized its full potential. They felt it was how the story was always meant to be told.

New episodes of House of the Spirits are released on Prime Video on Wednesdays.

Based on Isabel Allende’s novel, the new series launched on April 29, 2026, with the first three episodes available immediately. New episodes will continue to be released quickly in the following weeks.
