BBC Radio 2 is delaying its annual Radio 2 in the Park festival. They’re doing this because they don’t want to negatively affect other music festivals happening around the same time.
The event, originally scheduled for City Park in Stirling from August 7th to 9th, lasted three days.
So, the film festival I was really looking forward to has been delayed. It’s now happening a month later, in September instead of when originally planned. They haven’t announced the new dates or the complete list of films just yet, but I’m still excited!
The change to the schedule is happening because organizers are worried about holding the event in August, when other music festivals are already planned nearby.
Helen Thomas, the head of Radio 2, explained the changes in a statement. She said their goal is to create a fantastic event in Stirling that benefits both Scottish listeners and the local community, just as they’ve done successfully in cities like Leicester, Preston, and Chelmsford in the past.
We’ve been collaborating with the Scottish Independent Festival Association (SIFA) to ensure Scotland has a fantastic summer of music events.
We understand that changing the date may disrupt plans for those hoping to attend in August, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience. We wanted to let everyone know as soon as possible.
We’re thrilled to be broadcasting Radio 2 from Stirling and will be announcing the fantastic performers who will be with us shortly.

Last year’s festival took place in Chelmsford, Essex, and included headlining sets by Bryan Adams and Def Leppard. Jessie J, Belinda Carlisle, and Ronan Keating also performed.
This event features a fantastic lineup of popular music artists, including major UK and international stars, as well as favorites from BBC Radio 2.
A Stirling Council representative expressed excitement about BBC Radio 2 in the Park coming to City Park Stirling for the first time. They highlighted the park’s history of hosting successful large events and said they look forward to welcoming music fans and performers to the city for a fantastic musical celebration.
According to a representative from SIFA, Scotland is a fantastic location for events of all sizes. Independent festivals are a valued and important part of Scottish communities, contributing to both culture and the economy nationwide.
We appreciate the BBC’s careful planning and collaboration in setting up this event. We’re excited to work with the BBC, EventScotland, VisitScotland, Stirling Council, and all our partners to ensure a successful weekend and support the continued growth of festivals across Scotland.
