The beloved Scottish drama Monarch of the Glen is making a comeback! A new version of the series will air on Channel 5.
The upcoming series is a new take on the popular show Monarch of the Glen, which originally ran from 2000 to 2005. It’s being produced by the same company behind the original, Ecosse Films, along with Masterpiece PBS, and is inspired by the Highland Novels by Sir Compton Mackenzie.
Channel 5 has announced the show will return to the Scottish Highlands, promising a heartwarming and funny story about family, love, and overcoming challenges.
The story begins with Isla Campbell, a successful London lawyer, returning to her family’s rundown estate in the Scottish Highlands for her father’s funeral. She plans to leave quickly after the service, but things don’t go as expected.
Instead of an inheritance of wealth, she finds herself owing a million pounds, with the bank threatening to take everything and her brother determined to hold onto their family home. Now living together again after years apart, the siblings must work together to rescue the failing estate before they lose it forever.

Jeremy Brock, known for ‘A Very Royal Scandal,’ and Stephen Greenhorn, who worked on ‘Dept Q,’ created and wrote the new series. They also serve as executive producers, with Tom Vaughan (‘Doctor Foster’) directing and also taking on an executive producer role.
Alex Boyd (known for ‘How to Get to Heaven from Belfast’), Robert Bernstein, and Douglas Rae (‘Monarch of the Glen’) are producers on the project. Rob Darnell and Adam Duncan are executive producers representing Ecosse Films, while Susanne Simpson serves as the executive producer for Masterpiece.
Cast details will be announced in due course.

Brock shared that he immediately accepted the opportunity to revisit ‘Monarch of the Glen.’ He’s thrilled to tell a story about family, finding your way in today’s busy world, and the unique, heartwarming, and often funny people who make up a close-knit community – all with a positive and realistic approach.
With so much uncertainty in the world, hope and happiness are precious commodities. The Scottish Highlands – a truly enchanting landscape – seemed like the perfect place to nurture and find them.
Bernstein explained that “Monarch of the Glen” is a cherished program and they’re excited to share it with a new audience.
Filming will take place in Scotland and Northern Ireland later this year.
