Clear River Games announced that Culdcept The First Saturn Tribute will be available on PC through Steam starting July 30th. Players on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch in Western regions will be able to play the game beginning September 8th.
The game, known as Culdcept The First in Japan, will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch, and PC on July 30th, as originally planned.
Okay, so good news for physical game collectors like me! Clear River Games is releasing a physical version of Culdcept The First Saturn Tribute on both PlayStation 5 and Switch at the same time as the digital release. The standard version will cost $34.99 or €29.99, but they’re also doing a special “Cepter Edition” for $79.99 or €69.99. I’m definitely checking that out!
About
Fans have been eager to play Culdcept The First Saturn Tribute, and now it’s available on both Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5 in digital and physical formats. The original Culdcept The First debuted in 1997 for the SEGA Saturn, and quickly gained a dedicated following. Players loved its captivating deck-building mechanics, beautiful art style, and immersive fantasy world.
Clear River Games and City Connection are excited to introduce players to the world of Culdcept with an updated version of the original game. For the first time, it will be available with English subtitles and include modern features to improve the gaming experience.
In Culdcept The First Saturn Tribute, players are transported to Culdra Space, a world created by the powerful goddess Culdra, who also invented Culdcept – a magical book capable of immense creation power. Players take on the role of a “Cepter” and compete using a personalized 50-card deck, known as their Book.
Explore the game board by rolling dice and calling forth amazing creatures. In Culdcept The First Saturn Tribute, any space you occupy with a creature becomes your land. Use Spell Cards to influence dice rolls, help your creatures, or hinder your opponents, all while strategically moving across the board.
Navigating the game board will be challenging. Landing on another player’s space requires a payment of Magic Power as a toll. But don’t give up easily – summon a creature and battle for control of the territory! In Culdcept The First Saturn Tribute, winning depends on more than just your creatures’ strength and skills. You’ll also need to strategically use Item Cards and take advantage of bonuses from the land and your allies.
Players expand their control by capturing territories and boosting their Magic Power to become the strongest. The first player to gather enough Magic Power and return to their Castle wins the battle. Winning players then receive a random set of cards based on their final ranking, which they can use to improve their strategy for future battles.
Quality-of-Life Enhancements
Beyond the classic game, Culdcept The First Saturn Tribute offers improvements for today’s players. These include:
- Rewind – Rewind the game to any point where a Checkpoint was passed at a Fort or the Castle.
- Quick Save and Load – Enables gamers to save and load at any time, independent of the main game’s standard save function.
- Bonus Pack – Increases the number of Reward Cards received at the end of a match. (This can be toggled ON / OFF in the options menu).
- Reveal Hands – A brand-new feature allowing gamers to constantly display both their own and their opponent’s hand on-screen—information that was only visible at specific times in the original version. (Reveal Hands can be toggled ON/OFF, and the display size adjusts automatically depending on the game’s screen layout.)
- Language Switching – Allows gamers to play the game in either Japanese or English.
