Tara Lipinskihas a heartbreaking family update.
The 43-year-old shared heartbreaking news: her surrogate mother recently had a miscarriage while carrying her and her husband, Todd Kapostasy’s, second child.
Tara recently shared that she and her husband experienced a miscarriage during their second surrogacy journey. In a post on Instagram, she explained they’d been trying to have another baby with a surrogate for two years. Their first surrogate, who carried their son Georgie, wasn’t able to continue with another pregnancy, which Tara described as a painful loss, but they decided to try again.
The Olympic gold medalist, who is also a mother to 2-year-old Georgie, shared the challenges her family experienced during her recent pregnancy. She explained that they faced many difficulties, including a long search for a surrogate, medical issues, a failed embryo transfer, and ultimately, a loss. She said it’s been a very difficult journey.
She thanked her surrogates, sharing that she’ll always feel a deep connection to them both.
I’m so grateful for the amazing woman who carried our baby – she’s an angel and will always be incredibly special to me. I’m also thankful for our first surrogate, who has continued to offer support even now, during this second surrogacy experience.
Tara has publicly shared her difficult five-year experience trying to conceive, which included four miscarriages, numerous medical procedures – 24 surgeries and eight egg retrievals – and six unsuccessful embryo transfers.
It took us a long time to achieve success because we faced constant setbacks, loss, and disappointment,” she explained to TopMob News in June 2024. “It felt like we were constantly being knocked down, and it was hard to find the strength to keep trying.”
Tara draws on her personal experiences to passionately support people facing infertility. She recently visited Washington D.C. to talk to members of Congress about expanding access to IVF treatment.
Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz recently shared on Facebook about connecting with Tara Lipinski and discussing their experiences with infertility. She highlighted the financial difficulties many face with IVF treatment, stating it’s unaffordable for too many. Wasserman Schultz is urging Congress to pass her HOPE with Fertility Services Act to make IVF more accessible and affordable, believing everyone deserves the chance to start a family.
The figure skater revealed she’d experienced a pregnancy loss several months prior, and a recent trip to Washington, D.C. finally gave her the courage to share what happened.
Tara recently shared that she felt compelled to take action. She was deeply moved by the personal and often difficult stories women were sharing with her, and it convinced her that the moment was right.
