Beau Starr, Halloween Franchise Actor, Dies at 81

Beau Starr, a familiar face in horror movies thanks to his roles in several film series, has died at the age of 81.

Actor Michael Starr has died, his brother Mike Starr confirmed to TMZ. He passed away peacefully from natural causes on Friday, April 24th, in Vancouver, Canada. Mike described his brother as a truly special and unique person who played a significant role in raising him and shaping his life, alongside their parents.

I was really saddened to hear about Dick Starr’s passing. His former manager, Timothy Beal, shared some lovely thoughts, saying Dick always had a special place in his heart for his fans, especially those who loved Halloween – and rightfully so! Beal also mentioned how genuinely nice it was to work with him, and how he wished they’d had more chances to collaborate. It’s just a really tough loss for everyone who appreciated his work.

In the 1988 horror film Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers, Starr played Sheriff Ben Meeker, the father of victim Kelly Meeker (Kathleen Kinmont). Sheriff Meeker helped Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasence) try to stop Michael Myers (George P. Wilbur) from continuing his violent spree. The character lived through the first film and returned in the 1989 sequel, Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers, where he was eventually killed.

Starr is fondly remembered for his role in Martin Scorsese’s popular 1990 film, Goodfellas, where he played Ray Liotta’s character Henry Hill’s father. Chris Serrone, the actor who played young Henry Hill, posted a tribute to Starr on social media.

I’m deeply saddened to share the news of Beau Starr’s passing,” Serrone wrote. “Beau lived a full and meaningful life, and will be remembered as a son, brother, father, grandfather, actor, and athlete – he played both NFL and CFL football. Please join me in remembering what a wonderful person he was. Rest in peace.

Before becoming known for his work in the Halloween movies, Starr began his acting career in 1982 with a role in Hanky Panky, alongside Gene Wilder and Gilda Radner. Interestingly, he had previously been a football player, spending time on the practice squad of the New York Jets and playing two seasons in the Canadian Football League. He then moved into comedy, performing on the sketch show Bizarre, before landing a significant role in the Canadian crime series Due South, where he appeared in 66 episodes from 1994 to 1999.

Richard Starr acted in several popular films and television shows throughout his career. He appeared in comedies like Summer School (1987) and dramas such as Cinderella Man (2005), as well as films like Fletch, Born on the Fourth of July, Speed, Trial by Jury, Hoodlum, My Name Is Tanino, and Code Name: The Cleaner. On television, he had roles in shows including T.J. Hooker, The A-Team, Knight Rider, Night Court, Hill Street Blues, V: The Series, The 4400, and NYPD Blue.

Rest in peace, Beau Starr.
