Anyone familiar with Invincible knows the series doesn’t shy away from death. Whether you’ve followed the comic books or watched the Amazon Prime show, you’re aware that Mark Grayson’s story is filled with violence, intense brutality, and surprising deaths. The very beginning of the story, with Omni-Man’s attack on the Guardians of the Globe, is just a glimpse of the overall carnage. While viewers of the show have already witnessed a lot over four seasons, there are still many more deaths to come.
Okay, fair warning to anyone who hasn’t finished the series – this review is packed with spoilers! If you’re avoiding them, now’s the time to click away. But for those of us who are caught up, we know some truly devastating moments are coming. I’m going to lay out who’s facing their end soon: Cecil, that complicated ally of the Graysons, and Mark’s half-brother, Oliver. If you absolutely need to know which characters are about to meet their maker in Invincible and the reasons why, keep reading – but don’t say I didn’t warn you!
5. Cecil

Invincible and Cecil Stedman, the director of the Global Defense Agency, had a troubled history. Despite their conflicts, Invincible didn’t want Cecil to die. Tragically, after Invincible revealed Robot’s world domination plan, Robot brutally killed Cecil by slashing his throat and then stomping on his head. Cecil was a popular and multifaceted character, and his death will be a significant emotional blow for viewers. It also dramatically raises the stakes as the story of Invincible heads towards its conclusion.
4. Oliver

Viewers watched Oliver mature remarkably fast, making his sudden death even more heartbreaking. Once grown, he was used by the Coalition of Planets as a spy to gather intelligence on Thragg. Thragg discovered his plan to eliminate Invincible and his family, and when Oliver tried to protect Mark, Eve, and their daughter, Thragg killed him. It’s a deeply emotional scene, especially considering how brief Oliver’s life ultimately was.
3. Thragg

Though Grand Regent Thragg only recently appeared in the animated series, viewers quickly learned how truly evil he is. Throughout the latter half of Invincible, he causes Mark a great deal of suffering, and their final confrontation is incredibly intense. They battle across the cosmos, ultimately fighting inside the Sun itself. The fight is shocking and violent, but Mark ultimately defeats his enemy. Those wanting to see Thragg face consequences for his actions will be satisfied with the outcome.
2. Robot

Readers who only watch the show haven’t reached the point where Robot becomes a villain, a turning point that significantly changes the story. He’s a compelling secondary antagonist, and eventually, Invincible and Robot have a long-awaited battle in one of the final comic issues. During their fight in space, Robot claims he’s established peace and that Invincible knows it won’t hold without him. Instead of completely destroying Robot, Invincible destroys his body but preserves his brain, intending to use it to maintain peace on Earth. It wasn’t a straightforward killing blow, but Robot is ultimately defeated.
1. Omni-Man

When the show finally depicts the death of Invincible’s father, Omni-Man, it’s going to be a truly emotional moment for viewers. During the climactic battle with Thragg, Nolan Grayson—Omni-Man—is seriously injured and ultimately dies, unlike his son Mark. He survives just long enough for a touching final conversation with Mark. While some viewers may still have conflicted feelings about Omni-Man as a character, I’m confident his death will be incredibly impactful and bring a lot of tears.
