Assassin’s Creed Invictus Could Be Delayed Out of 2026 or Cancelled After “Really Awful” Playtests

Reports surfaced in February about Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Invictus, a multiplayer game first announced in September 2022. Since then, there’s been no gameplay footage, official information, or even a target release date. According to insiders, the development team doesn’t seem to be enjoying working on the project, with one source describing it as deeply discouraging.

So, I’ve been following the news about this game, and the latest report from insider xj0nathan isn’t good, sadly. Apparently, after some recent playtests on April 30th, things are still really rough. One person who played it even said it was “really awful!” He’s hearing that while they’re aiming for a release by the end of the year, there’s a strong possibility it could be delayed, or even canceled altogether. He’s also asking anyone else who’s tried it to share their thoughts, which is a bit worrying, honestly.

Okay, so I’ve been hearing about Invictus, and it’s not quite what I expected from a multiplayer Assassin’s Creed game. I was thinking something like the competitive stuff in Black Flag or the co-op missions from Unity. But apparently, it’s more like Fall Guys – a bunch of cartoonish characters running around. Someone described the graphics as being between realistic and cel-shaded, kinda like Fortnite, but not quite as cartoony. It sounds pretty different, honestly!

Jean Guesdon, who leads content development for the franchise at Vantage Studios, confirmed in March that Invictus is still being developed. He described it as a fresh take on multiplayer gameplay within the series. He also noted that the game isn’t turning out as some rumors have suggested, and the team is looking for ways to involve players earlier in the process to help shape the final experience.

If the game really comes out this year, we should find out what that entails soon. Considering reports that magic has been cut from Codename Hexe and 50 developers were removed from the project, it’s likely that Guesdon has also requested significant changes to Invictus following Ubisoft’s recent restructuring. We’ll keep you updated as more information becomes available.
