Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord is a new series that finally focuses on the story of the infamous Darth Maul. It explores his life after the events of Order 66 and the conclusion of the Clone Wars.
Sam Witwer is once again the voice of the character, a role he’s played in several animated projects. He took over the part from Ray Park and Peter Serafinowicz, who previously performed the physical stunts and dialogue, respectively, in The Phantom Menace.
This previously unknown part of the villain’s story reveals his plan to train a discouraged Jedi as his new apprentice. He hopes to use this apprentice to help him get revenge on those who wronged him.
Star Wars is making a big comeback this year. After a relatively quiet 2025, things are starting strong with the release of ‘Maul – Shadow Lord’. Fans can also look forward to the first look at ‘The Mandalorian’ and Grogu this summer, with the ‘Galactic Racer’ video game coming later on.
For fans who love the Star Wars universe, here’s the latest information about the upcoming Disney+ series, Maul: Shadow Lord.
Will there be a Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord season 2?
Yes! Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord has been renewed for a second season on Disney+.
Dave Filoni, who created the show and leads Lucasfilm, revealed it was renewed for another season in early April – even before the first episode had aired. This shows the studio was very confident viewers would enjoy it.
It appears people were justified in their excitement, as the first season of Maul – Shadow Lord received excellent reviews and even set a new record on Rotten Tomatoes for the highest-rated Star Wars series.
When could Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord season 2 be released?
Disney Plus and Lucasfilm is yet to announce a premiere date for Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord.
This new series is made by a different animation team than Filoni’s previous show, The Bad Batch, so it’s currently unclear if it will take place at the same time.
The animation series is being handled by CGCG, a well-respected studio based in Taiwan. They’re known for their work on shows like Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man and Jurassic World: Chaos Theory, which suggests the series should progress at a good speed.

The show uses character designs similar to those seen in previous Star Wars series like The Bad Batch, The Clone Wars, and Rebels. However, it stands out visually with its rich backgrounds, unique color choices, and special effects.
Fans will likely be patient with a short delay, but ideally, the release shouldn’t take more than 18 months, putting the launch around fall or winter of 2027.
Right now, this is just a guess. We’ll share official release information for Maul – Shadow Lord season 2 as soon as we have it.
What could happen in Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord season 2?

Details about season 2 of Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord are still secret, but it will likely continue to explore the previously unknown story of the dangerous criminal Maul, with Sam Witwer returning as the voice of the character.
First appearing in 1999’s The Phantom Menace, where he lost a duel with Obi-Wan Kenobi and was presumed dead, this memorable character has been brought back to life by Dave Filoni, a director mentored by George Lucas.
He explained that Darth Maul survived his apparent death in Episode I and continued to work as a dangerous crime boss in the years between the movies, a storyline detailed in the series The Clone Wars and Rebels.

Similar to how The Clone Wars introduced Ahsoka Tano as Anakin Skywalker’s Padawan, the story of Maul – Shadow Lord is now delving into a more sinister version of that relationship, as the exiled Sith Lord searches for someone to train as his own apprentice.
I’m really invested in Devon Izara’s story! As a Jedi who’s lost faith, she’s become a target for Maul, and it’s heartbreaking to watch her struggle. The show seems to be building towards a big decision for her – will she fall to the dark side, or fight to stay true to the light? It’s a really compelling part of the series, and Gideon Adlon is doing an amazing job portraying her inner turmoil.
It creates a sense of intrigue, even though the main character’s destiny was decided long ago, as shown in the 2017 Rebels episode ‘Twin Suns’.
Is there a trailer for Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord season 2?
Alas, there’s no new footage to share just yet, but we’ll update this page if that changes.
You can now watch Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord on Disney+. A Disney+ subscription starts at just £5.99 per month.
