In many games, vehicles are just a quick way to travel and help you reach your goals. But sometimes, a vehicle is the game – it’s all you play, or it defines the entire world around you. The best gaming vehicles aren’t just useful for getting around; they’re also key to solving problems and overcoming obstacles, making them truly unforgettable.
Racing games focus entirely on fast-paced competitions using vehicles. But memorable cars aren’t just about how well they perform; their unique and recognizable designs help players connect with them. While a sleek sports car might be popular in a game like Forza Horizon, sometimes a vehicle needs to be dependable and visually impressive to truly win players over.
5. S.S.V. Normandy (Mass Effect)

Though you don’t directly pilot the Normandy in the Mass Effect trilogy, it serves as the central base of operations for you and your crew. Commander Shepard builds strong relationships with the team members you gather on your journey across the galaxy. Many of the most memorable and heartwarming moments with these beloved characters happen aboard the Normandy, making it a special and nostalgic place throughout the series.
For me, the Normandy SR-2 from Mass Effect 2 is the best version of the ship. Built by Cerberus, it was designed as a highly advanced base of operations for Commander Shepard, and even included EDI, a sophisticated AI who feels like a true member of the crew. In later games, you can improve the Normandy through research, making it an even more reliable ship for critical missions. Plus, vehicles like the M35 Mako add to its versatility and dependability.
4. Arwing (Star Fox)

The Arwing is much more than just a ship that does barrel rolls – it’s the vehicle you directly control throughout every Star Fox game. Though you play as the famous Fox McCloud, it’s the Arwing that handles all the action, guiding you through missions while characters communicate via on-screen messages. The Arwing’s distinctive design – with its sharp lines and smooth coloring – has made it a memorable starship, and it’s often served as inspiration for vehicles in other games.
It’s been a while since a new Star Fox game with an updated Arwing was released, but the Arwing’s basic controls have appeared in other Nintendo games. The Arwing is a fast and nimble vehicle that reacts quickly to player input, making it feel natural to fly. For players who want to complete every Star Fox level perfectly, learning how to fully control the Arwing is essential, as its performance depends on the player’s skill.
3. Batmobile (Batman: Arkham Knight)

In Batman: Arkham Knight, you primarily play as Batman, and navigating the expanded city of Gotham is made possible by the famous Batmobile. This vehicle isn’t just for transportation; it’s central to many missions, allowing for fast-paced chases across the city. A key feature is its ability to transform into a tank-like mode, equipped with non-lethal weapons, effectively turning Batman into a one-person fighting force.
The Batmobile’s tank mode is incredibly powerful, easily destroying enemy tanks deployed by the Arkham Knight’s forces. The game even features boss battles where you pilot the Batmobile, relying on its speed and maneuverability to avoid attacks from other armored vehicles. In Batman: Arkham Knight, the Batmobile is central to almost everything you do – not just driving and combat, but also solving puzzles and investigating crime scenes. You’ll even need it to find some of the Riddler’s collectibles, which makes it a good thing the vehicle is fun to drive throughout the entire game.
2. Seamoth/Cyclops (Subnautica)

Exploring the underwater world of Subnautica isn’t easy in just your basic suit. Many areas are either dangerously radioactive or filled with deadly creatures. Plus, you quickly run out of oxygen the deeper you go. That’s where vehicles come in – they’re essential for reaching the deepest parts of this alien planet you’ve crash-landed on. The Seamoth is your first vehicle, and it lets you travel much faster as you uncover the ocean’s many secrets.
As you progress, you’ll learn how to build the Cyclops, a much larger vehicle that functions almost like a mobile base for exploring the ocean. Both the Seamoth and Cyclops are important achievements in Subnautica and will likely return in the Subnautica 2 Early Access. They significantly reduce the pressure on your character and make exploring much easier. In fact, you can’t reach half of the game’s areas without one of these vehicles, so they really open up new possibilities.
These vehicles offer some protection from the most dangerous creatures in Subnautica. While building a Seamoth or Cyclops requires a lot of resources, you’ll also need to consistently supply power to keep them running during your explorations. Each vehicle has its own strengths – the Seamoth is quick and maneuverable, while the Cyclops boasts cameras and ample storage space. Using both vehicles together can make overcoming challenges in Subnautica much easier, even in the most dangerous parts of the ocean.
1. Warthog (Halo)

The Warthog is often considered the best vehicle in Halo because it’s built for teamwork. It can carry three players – a driver, a passenger, and someone to operate the turret – and requires them to work together to be effective. Plus, the Warthog is incredibly durable, able to withstand a lot of damage from enemies.
Any Halo player has a story about being saved by a Warthog during a tough mission. Whether it’s a last-ditch escape in the original Halo or Halo 3, or using a Warthog to win a Capture the Flag match, fans love how dependable this vehicle is. Unlike slower tanks like the Scorpion or the easily destroyed Ghost, the Warthog is durable, handles well, and allows players to effectively work together to defeat large groups of enemies.
The Warthog is a powerful and versatile vehicle, often armed with machine guns, cannons, or rocket launchers. It’s as effective at crashing into enemies as it is at shooting them, and has been a key part of many iconic moments in the Halo series. Its reliability has made it a fan favorite, and it’s even returning in the updated version of Halo: Combat Evolved.
