The release window for The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3 has finally been confirmed.
Fans finally know when season 3 of Dead City will premiere, continuing a pattern established by The Walking Dead spinoff series. The first season arrived in June 2023, just six months after the original Walking Dead ended. After a long wait, season 2 premiered in May 2025. Season 3 began filming in Massachusetts in September 2025 and finished later that year, but a release date hasn’t been announced yet.
According to Variety, season 3 of The Walking Dead: Dead City is set to premiere on AMC and AMC+ in the summer of 2026. The first two episodes will debut at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival on June 12th, kicking off the event. Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Lauren Cohan, and the show’s new showrunner, Seth Hoffman, are all expected to attend. Although the exact return date hasn’t been announced, the summer release maintains the pattern established by the show’s first two seasons.
Season 3 starts immediately after the end of Season 2, with Maggie and Negan trying to move past their history and create a new home in New York City. But their efforts to build a peaceful community are quickly challenged by dangerous groups in the city, like the Dama and the New Babylon Federation. As conflict erupts around them, Maggie and Negan must decide if they can truly work together, all while confronting their shared past.
I’m really excited about the new season of The Walking Dead: Dead City! It’s going to be different than what we’ve seen before, and I think that’s a good thing. They’ve brought in a new showrunner, Hoffman, who was a big part of the original show back in seasons 4-6, and he’s even writing the first and seventh episodes! Plus, they’re adding some fantastic new faces – Aimee Garcia, Jimmi Simpson, and Raúl Castillo are all joining the cast, and I can’t wait to see what they bring to the story.
