Xbox Game Studios and Playground Games have announced that Forza Horizon 6 is finished and ready for release. Production of physical copies is underway, and the game is being prepared for digital download.
The companies updated everyone on the latest news, such as when players can start downloading the game, details about the music, rewards for loyal fans, and options for customizing the experience.
Get the details below.
Preload Forza Horizon 6
To celebrate the upcoming launch, you can now download Forza Horizon 6 before it’s officially released on Xbox Series X|S and PC through the Xbox app. (Steam players will be able to preload soon!) This ensures you’re ready to explore the beautiful scenery of Japan the moment the game is available. You’ll need at least 135GB of free space on Xbox Series X (130GB on Series S), and 160GB with an SSD on PC.
If you’ve pre-ordered Forza Horizon 6 (any edition) or have an active Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass subscription, you can download the game ahead of its release. Even if you’re buying a physical copy, you can preload it today using the Xbox app on your phone. Just find Forza Horizon 6 in the Store and select “Download to Console” to begin.
If you pre-installed Forza Horizon 6 using the temporary file, please check for game updates on your PlayStation, Xbox, or PC. This will make sure you have all the necessary files before Early Access starts on May 15th (with the Premium or Upgrade versions), or when the game is released worldwide on May 19th.
Your Horizon Festival Soundtrack
We’re almost ready to launch the game, and to get everyone excited, we’re sharing a preview of the music you’ll hear as you become a Horizon Legend! Music is a huge part of the Horizon Festival experience – it’s not just background noise. Throughout the Forza Horizon series, we’ve featured everything from popular chart-toppers to undiscovered artists and unique tracks, all carefully chosen for our radio stations to enhance your gameplay.
As you’d expect from Forza Horizon 6, the game features a first-time selection of popular J-pop tracks at the Horizon Festival. These are mixed with the game’s signature blend of electronic music, including energetic drum & bass, upbeat electropop, powerful rock, indie alternative, hip-hop, retro synthwave, and modern classical pieces.
Forza Horizon 6 boasts the biggest radio soundtrack ever in a Horizon game, with 9 different stations to choose from! Over the next few days, we’ll be sharing the full song list on our Forza Horizon social media channels. Plus, we’re creating a Spotify playlist for each station so you can get a sneak peek at the music before the game comes out.

Quality and Performance Modes on Xbox Series X|S
As a Forza Horizon 6 player on Xbox Series X|S, I’m really happy they’re letting me choose how the game looks and runs. I can pick between prioritizing awesome graphics or a super smooth framerate – it’s cool to be able to customize it to what I want.
On Xbox Series X, you can choose between two graphics modes. Quality mode prioritizes visual detail, running the game at a crisp 4K resolution at 30 frames per second. Performance mode focuses on smooth gameplay, aiming for 4K resolution but adjusting as needed to maintain a consistent 60 frames per second.
Xbox Series S owners can experience Japan in the game at either 1440p resolution with smoother graphics (Quality mode, 30 frames per second) or at 1080p with faster action (Performance mode, 60 frames per second). Both modes automatically adjust the resolution to keep the game running smoothly at their target frame rate.

Customize Your Horizon Experience
Okay, so in Forza Horizon 6, they’ve kept all the great accessibility features from past Horizon games, and added even more! The coolest new thing is AutoDrive. Basically, you can hit the d-pad to talk to ANNA while you’re driving around Japan, set a waypoint on the map, and then let the car drive itself! Seriously, you can just kick back and enjoy the scenery – it’s perfect for when you want to soak in the beautiful Japanese landscapes without worrying about the driving.
As a racing fan, I’m really excited about the new Proximity Radar! It’s going to be a huge help in avoiding those annoying crashes, especially when I’m using my favorite camera angles like cockpit or hood view. You can customize where it shows up on screen and even add audio alerts, which is awesome. But honestly, the biggest game-changer for me is the High Contrast Mode. It makes the beautiful Japanese landscapes in the game so much more vibrant and easier on the eyes – it’s a fantastic addition for accessibility and just makes the whole experience even better!
High Contrast Mode makes the game screen simpler, helping players clearly see key items. You can fully adjust it to create a comfortable and personalized viewing experience.
Forza Horizon 6 will once again offer a variety of accessibility features, such as the ability to customize controller buttons on all platforms, screen narration, subtitles, and adjustable camera settings on PC. Players can also utilize colorblind filters, modify game speed when playing offline, and take advantage of our complete range of difficulty levels and driving assistance options.
After the game launches, players will have the option to turn on American Sign Language (ASL) or British Sign Language (BSL) for in-game cutscenes. This will show a sign language interpreter in a small window on the screen, and players can choose where to position that window.
Japan Awaits!
Get ready to claim your Festival Wristband! It’s your pass to the world’s biggest car and music event, and the adventure to Legend Island is just around the corner!
The highly anticipated game, Forza Horizon 6, will launch on Xbox Series and PC (through Steam and the Microsoft Store) on May 19th. PlayStation 5 players will be able to experience the game later in 2026.
