In the four-part thriller, Number One Fan, stars Jill Halfpenny and Sally Lindsay play characters whose lives dramatically collide when a popular morning TV presenter meets her most devoted fan. The series explores the unsettling consequences of this encounter.
When Donna Hughes steps in to help Lucy Logan, a popular TV personality, after an attempted mugging in a parking lot, Lucy takes a liking to her and invites her into her close group of friends. However, Lucy doesn’t realize this simple act will set off a series of surprising and disturbing events.
The story begins with Lucy feeling thankful for Donna’s support, but that quickly changes when Donna’s enthusiasm becomes a dangerous obsession that starts to take over Lucy’s life, affecting her work, family, and relationships.
Lucy is horrified to discover that Donna is connected to a secret from her past, one that could ruin everything she’s worked for in her career.
Lindsay described the series as a thrilling and unpredictable ride. She explained that it initially seems to focus on a well-known TV personality and a devoted admirer, but quickly takes unexpected turns, leading viewers down a completely different storyline.
I was really surprised when I read it! It feels very modern, but it also looks back at older television and how things have changed – things that would be impossible to see on TV today. Jill and I have both been working in this industry for almost thirty years, so we actually lived through those times.
Halfpenny believes viewers will connect with the show because it’s set in a familiar world that many people have complicated feelings about – they both love and dislike it.
Everyone has a different opinion on daytime TV – some love it, some hate it, but most people recognize it. That’s just how it is, she explained.
The show explores a fascinating and rarely seen world – the private, quiet moments people share in dressing rooms. It’s a really well-written story, and the fast pace keeps you hooked, eager to see what happens next. It moves along quickly and keeps you engaged.

Alongside familiar actors like Halfpenny and Lindsay, this series features both well-known and new faces. Let’s take a look at who plays whom, and where you might recognize the cast from.

Sally Lindsay is best known for her roles in popular TV shows like Coronation Street, The Madame Blanc Mysteries, Still Open All Hours, Cold Call, Scott & Bailey, and Mount Pleasant.
Daniel Adegboyega plays Shawn Logan

Shawn Logan is Lucy’s partner. According to actress Katherine Halfpenny, Lucy initially presents a happy facade, but is actually insecure about the strength of their relationship. Halfpenny believes Lucy would admit, if she were truly honest, that things aren’t as stable as she lets on.
When people get incredibly busy, life often just carries them forward without much thought. It’s not until a real need arises, or you truly connect with someone and ask how they’re doing, that you realize how much you’ve neglected things along the way.
Daniel Adegboyega has also appeared in projects like Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale, Underground, and Transformers: The Last Knight.
Dean Andrews plays Stewart Jones

Stewart Jones is a former TV host who was taken off the air for reasons that will be revealed. According to Lindsay, the character is based on a combination of real people. Even after 25 years, Jones remains arrogant, believing he did nothing wrong and that his downfall was the result of a conspiracy. Lindsay describes this level of self-assurance as remarkable.
Dean Andrews is most famous for his roles in shows like Emmerdale, Last Tango in Halifax, Life on Mars, and Ashes to Ashes. But he’s also appeared in other projects.
Sharlene Whyte plays Mel

Mel is Lucy’s manager, portrayed by the incredibly talented Sharlene Whyte. According to Lindsay, the show features many powerful scenes with strong female characters interacting with each other.
If you recognize Sharlene Whyte, you might have seen her in shows like The Story of Tracy Beaker, Waterloo Road, Mr Loverman, Sherwood, or Stephen.
