Marvel’s experiment with manga ended earlier this year with the final chapter of Deadpool: Samurai. The story wrapped up perfectly for Deadpool, with him hilariously destroying the Shueisha offices before walking off into the sunset. Now, it looks like Spider-Man is also finishing his manga run. While the Ultraman: Along Came a Spider-Man crossover is concluding, the overall series will continue with new stories.
The exciting team-up between Marvel’s Spider-Man and Ultraman, which started in 2024, is wrapping up with chapter 43. Artist Tomo Hirokawa announced on social media that this chapter concludes the current story arc. Don’t worry, the series isn’t over! It will continue focusing solely on Ultraman. Hirokawa explained that episode 43, titled Ultraman Along Came a Spider-Man, is now available and concludes the story covered in volume 4 of the comics, with the next episodes marking the beginning of volume 5 and a new focus on Ultraman. While the story has reached a natural ending point, there’s another reason why this Marvel/Ultraman crossover is concluding.
The Marvel Manga Era Has Ended
Marvel and Shueisha recently collaborated to create manga series released under the “Shonen Jump” label. However, that partnership is ending in March of this year, which means popular titles like Deadpool: Samurai won’t be continued. While the Ultraman collaboration is separate, it suggests Marvel might be reducing its partnerships with manga publishers. The official announcement stated that Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions would end its publishing agreement with Marvel Comics on March 31, 2026, and apologized for any disruption this might cause.
Even though anime is incredibly popular, Marvel surprisingly hasn’t created any new anime series recently. While characters like Iron Man, the X-Men, Blade, and Wolverine had anime adaptations made by Studio Madhouse years ago, nothing new has come out. With Disney’s success with Star Wars: Visions – an anime anthology exploring the Star Wars universe – fans have been hoping Marvel would follow suit.
