The latest episode of The Boys, Season 5, Episode 6, titled “Though the Heavens Fall,” has dramatically shifted the show’s direction as it approaches its finale. Season 5 has already been full of surprises – including the intense competition for V-One, A-Train’s death in the first episode, and Homelander killing Firecracker – and the pace isn’t letting up. Be warned: Major spoilers ahead!
The story focuses on the hunt for V1 and Bombsight, one of the earliest successful test subjects alongside Soldier Boy. After Sister Sage betrays Homelander, the Boys track Bombsight down, and with Soldier Boy initially opposing his son, they seemingly obtain V1. However, in a surprising turn of events, Soldier Boy switches sides and gives the serum to his son, who Homelander immediately injects himself with.
Is Stormfront Homelander’s Mother, And That’s Really Why Soldier Boy Gave Him The V-One?

A major plotline in Season 5 of The Boys revolves around the tense partnership between Soldier Boy and Homelander. Despite his son seemingly trying to kill him with a virus, Soldier Boy chooses to forgive him and even spares his life when given the opportunity, thanks to a substance created by Malchemical. In Episode 6, Sister Sage believes footage of Stormfront and Homelander will be enough to change Homelander’s behavior, but this proves to be only temporary.
Clara Vought, known as Stormfront, is a central figure in this story. Soldier Boy harbored romantic feelings for her, a connection that will be explored in the upcoming prequel, Vought Rising, featuring returns from Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash. He ultimately gave Homelander the V-One because of his love for Stormfront – believing it’s what she would have wanted, even though Homelander previously disagreed with her extremist views.
That might be the full story, but there’s still a popular theory about Stormfront’s connection to Homelander. It suggests Stormfront is actually his biological mother – even though he was born through a surrogate, her eggs were used in the process. This idea makes sense because Vought would likely want the strongest possible genes from both parents, not just Soldier Boy. Plus, the show often deviates from the original comics, and in those comics, Stormfront’s DNA was used to create Homelander, making this a plausible twist.
If Stormfront is Homelander’s mother and Soldier Boy is aware of this, the show’s big reveal becomes even more logical: Soldier Boy isn’t interested in a relationship with his own son, but he does care about Homelander. This also makes the dynamic between Homelander and Stormfront even more disturbing, which, given this is The Boys, might be exactly what the show is aiming for.
Can Homelander Be Defeated Now He Has The V-One?
After injecting himself with V-One, Homelander is now effectively immortal, making an already daunting task for The Boys nearly impossible. However, the show likely won’t end with Homelander winning – that would be a surprisingly dark conclusion. This suggests a new element will emerge, allowing the team to ultimately defeat him.
Ryan Butcher is a likely candidate to ultimately defeat Homelander, a theory fans have discussed for a while. It would be a poetic outcome, considering Ryan’s abilities – he’s already managed to injure Homelander and nearly defeated Stormfront, who also had powers. However, Stormfront wasn’t as strong as Homelander, and Ryan took a severe beating from his father, so it’s uncertain if he’s strong enough to win.
Sister Sage is another possibility, especially since she’s trying to prove herself. Although she claims she couldn’t create V-One, her intelligence suggests she might still be able to. Marie Moreau is also a strong contender, as she, like Homelander, was developed through Project Odessa. We’re expecting the characters from Gen V to become important in Season 5, and Marie might be able to alter Homelander’s blood to weaken him.
It’s still possible Soldier Boy could switch sides again, though it seems unlikely. A key to stopping Homelander might be his father’s ability to weaken him – something we see demonstrated with Bombsight. However, Black Noir 2 is definitely out of the picture, as he’s killed by the Deep. While the comics show Noir defeating the villain (and we knew the cloning storyline wouldn’t happen here), Noir is now gone. With just two episodes left, the Boys need to come up with a plan quickly.
New episodes of The Boys release on Wednesdays on Prime Video.
