Anime is becoming incredibly popular worldwide and is now a major part of mainstream media. Crunchyroll is the leading streaming service for international fans, constantly adding new shows each season. While other platforms like HIDIVE offer a selection of anime, their libraries aren’t as extensive. HIDIVE often focuses on older, sometimes classic, anime films and series. Though these acclaimed titles demonstrate the creativity and variety within anime, they frequently don’t get the attention they deserve due to limited promotion and declining popularity.
HIDIVE updates its anime library every month, announcing what shows are being added and taken down. The May 2026 changes have been announced, and unfortunately, some popular titles are leaving. This includes No Game No Life, a highly-regarded isekai anime, and the second season of K-On, which will no longer be available after May 31st, 2026. While only season two is currently scheduled for removal, the first season might also be taken down soon. Thankfully, both seasons of K-On are still available to stream on Prime Video.
What Is K-On About?

This anime is adapted from a manga created by Kakifly in 2007. The first and second seasons of the anime aired in 2009 and 2010, coinciding with the manga’s completion. Despite critical praise as a music-focused drama, a third season was never produced. The first season won a Best TV Animation award at the 2010 Tokyo International Anime Fair, and the second season received the Animation Kobe Award the same year.
I watched as Yui Hirasawa, a new high school student, signed up for what she thought was the Light Music Club – imagining things like playing castanets. She was surprised to discover it was something much more, and initially decided it wasn’t for her. But the club was in danger of closing because they didn’t have enough members, so they really tried to change her mind. Yui was pretty set on leaving, feeling she had no musical background, but she was completely blown away after seeing the club perform.
The Light Music Club is in danger of closing down because they don’t have enough members. Desperate to recruit Yui, the existing members try everything – offering treats and even letting her be lazy during club meetings – but she refuses, saying she doesn’t know how to play any instruments. Finally, they perform a song for her, which inspires her to join. Although Yui was excited to become a member, she still had a lot to learn before she could play alongside the others.
