Batman is one of the most popular superheroes in gaming, and while the LEGO games have always offered a unique take on his adventures, this new installment from TT Games is something a bit different. LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight keeps the series’ signature humor and easy-to-learn gameplay, but adds more complex mechanics, a larger story, and a greater challenge, drawing inspiration from more serious Batman games. Featuring a huge open world and a customizable home base, Legacy of the Dark Knight looks set to be the biggest and most ambitious LEGO game to date.
An Era-Spanning Batman Adventure
“Legacy of the Dark Knight” isn’t focused on just one version of Batman. It explores his entire history, bringing together different styles and influences over the decades. Whether you prefer the classic Batman or the darker, more modern interpretations, this LEGO title aims to honor everything that makes the Dark Knight special, in a way few stories across movies, comics, and games have done before.
A Story Connecting Batman’s Eras
Instead of simply collecting Batman stories, Legacy of the Dark Knight will weave them into one continuous story. The book will trace Bruce Wayne’s journey, starting with his training under Ra’s al Ghul and following him through to his current life as Gotham’s hero. This LEGO Batman book takes inspiration from various sources—including comics, films, and TV shows—to create a fresh yet recognizable experience.
Open World Gotham City
In LEGO Batman, you can freely roam a huge, open-world Gotham City. Beyond the main story missions, there’s a lot to do – you can find side quests, collect hidden items, and discover details about the city that add to the game’s rich story. You can explore everything at your own speed.
Dynamic Crimes
Gotham City feels alive and reactive as you play. TT Games says the core of the game is fighting crime as it happens – you can interrupt robberies and other offenses throughout the city’s gritty streets and rooftops. You’ll encounter all sorts of criminals, from common thugs to powerful supervillains, and these unexpected events make Gotham feel truly dangerous while also helping you level up and earn rewards.
Playable Characters Beyond Batman

While Batman takes center stage in this game, he won’t be working solo! Throughout the story, you’ll be able to play as other iconic characters like Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, Jim Gordon, Catwoman, and Talia al Ghul. Each character has unique skills, tools, and ways to level up, which adds variety to the gameplay and lets you tackle missions in different styles. The game even includes the Joker and Harley Quinn (available as downloadable content), but overall, LEGO Batman focuses on a smaller, more character-driven roster than previous LEGO games, which usually had a much larger selection of heroes and villains.
Advanced Combat System (for a LEGO game)
Fighting in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is much more involved than in past LEGO games. While it’s still easy for younger players to pick up, there are now more complex moves, timing-based counters, and tougher enemies that will challenge you. It’s clear the game takes inspiration from the Arkham series, and the combat feels more impactful and realistic for a Batman game – even though it’s made of LEGO!
Higher Difficulty Tier
For players wanting a greater challenge, LEGO Batman includes a harder difficulty setting that makes enemies more aggressive and deal more damage. This “Dark Knight” mode creates tougher fights by limiting lives, increasing the number of enemies, and making boss battles more difficult. Importantly, this isn’t just about making the game harder; it’s designed to encourage players to use the game’s more complex combat features.
Stealth Gameplay
Unlike most LEGO games which focus on fast-paced action, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight puts a big emphasis on stealth. Inspired by the Arkham series, the game lets you use shadows, hidden spots, and silent attacks to secretly defeat enemies. This fits Batman’s style perfectly, making gameplay more thoughtful and measured. You won’t just be rushing into fights – lurking in the shadows and taking enemies down quietly is just as effective.
Build and Expand Your Own Personal Batcave

In Legacy of the Dark Knight, the Batcave serves as the game’s main headquarters. You’ll start by building it under Wayne Manor, and as you progress, you can expand and personalize it with new areas, furniture, and decorations. You can display trophies, add fun features like arcade machines, and equip a variety of Batsuits and vehicles. Essentially, the Batcave will evolve to showcase your accomplishments and journey through Batman’s world.
Batsuits and Collectibles
Collecting items will be a major part of LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, and unlocking different Batsuits is a key reward. Because the game covers Batman’s entire history, the suits are inspired by all of his different looks. Plus, these aren’t just for show – many suits come with special powers. With capes, masks, and costumes from every version of Batman, this huge collection will be perfect for players who like to collect everything and dedicated Batman fans.
The Batcomputer
The Batcomputer is the central hub of the Batcave. It’s where you’ll manage everything – track missions, review case files, watch replays, and keep track of your goals as the story unfolds. You can also use it to follow current crimes, collect Waynetech chips, unlock characters, and view story cutscenes. Essentially, it’s the core of the whole game.
Gadget and Skill Upgrades
The Batcomputer also connects to the Batcave’s workshop, letting you improve your tools, skills, and gadgets to fit how you like to play. You can upgrade not only Batman’s equipment, like the Batarang and Batclaw, but also the gear of your allies.
Batmobiles Bring Vehicular Variety

A Batman game isn’t complete without the Batmobile, and Legacy of the Dark Knight delivers with multiple versions of the iconic vehicle, each inspired by different eras. You’ll find everything from the classic 1960s lowrider seen in the Adam West series to Robert Pattinson’s armored car, plus the military-style Tumbler from Christopher Nolan’s films and Tim Burton’s unique turbine-powered vehicle. There’s even a Batcycle! With the Batmobile playing a key role in missions and exploring Gotham, choosing the right vehicle – balancing speed, agility, and power – is essential to completing objectives designed around vehicular gameplay.
Mayhem Mode Features The Joke and Harley Quinn
As promised, we’re excited to introduce a new mode in The Legacy of the Dark Knight! Now you can play as The Joker and Harley Quinn, causing chaos and destruction throughout Gotham City. This ‘Mayhem Mode’ offers a fresh, fun experience separate from the main story. Currently, it’s available with the Deluxe Edition, but a downloadable version will be released for everyone later this year.
PC Requirements
To run LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight well, you’ll need at least an Intel Core i5-9600K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 processor, and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 or AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT graphics card. For the best possible experience, the game recommends an Intel Core i7-12700L or AMD Ryzen 7 7700X processor, and a GeForce RTX 3080 or AMD Radeon RX 7700X graphics card. You’ll also need 16GB of RAM and 50GB of free storage space.
