The latest Star Fox game is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 next month. While some reports suggested it would be a comedy, longtime fans might be disappointed by a new opening section focusing on the story of Fox’s father, James McCloud.
Okay, so this mission is seriously awesome! You fly out to Venom, which is where Dr. Andross ended up after getting kicked out, with Peppy and Pigma. Things get crazy when we lose contact with General Pepper – he actually thanks James for taking the mission, which, honestly, the General doesn’t seem thrilled about! Then, out of nowhere, a bunch of enemies attack, and get this – Pigma betrays Peppy and James, saying his new boss is paying him better! It’s a total shock, and really sets the stage for everything that happens next.
Andross has given the order to prevent our heroes from getting away. Just in time, James bravely intercepts a missile aimed at Slippy, saving his life. With his own ship taking damage, James tells Peppy to flee, deliver a warning to Pepper about Andross’s forces, and look after his son. James then steels himself for a massive battle against an overwhelming enemy fleet.
We don’t know how this story will end, but long-time fans of Star Fox 64 might recall an unresolved plot point from the past. It’s unclear if Nintendo will ever explain that, but overall, the quality of this opening section is amazing. We’re excited to see what happens when Star Fox is released on June 25th.
