Now that the first season of Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord has finished, fans still have a lot to anticipate from the Star Wars universe. While Disney is shifting its focus – prioritizing movies over new streaming shows and emphasizing quality over a large number of releases – Lucasfilm continues to develop new content. Although only a few projects are officially confirmed, many others are in the works. With Dave Filoni and Lynwen Brennan now leading Lucasfilm, fans are eager to see which projects will move forward.
Here are all the Star Wars movies and TV shows releasing after Maul – Shadow Lord.
1) The Mandalorian and Grogu (May 22, 2026)
Good news for Star Wars fans! After a seven-year break, a new movie is coming soon, continuing the story from the popular Disney+ series. While it’s an unusual choice to start the next set of Star Wars films with this project, Lucasfilm hopes the beloved character Grogu will draw audiences to theaters.
The initial promotional materials for The Mandalorian and Grogu were unusual and kept the story’s details under wraps. As the marketing campaign continued, we discovered more about what the film is about. It follows Din Djarin and Grogu as they try to eliminate Imperial leaders for the New Republic, hoping to avoid another galaxy-wide war. While they ultimately don’t succeed—as the First Order eventually emerges—The Mandalorian and Grogu promises to be a fun and moving experience.
2) Star Wars: Ahsoka Season 2 (2026)

Currently, the only live-action TV show Lucasfilm has confirmed is a second season of Ahsoka. While there’s no official release date yet, most people expect it to arrive later this year. Jon Favreau has said he’s already watched the entire season, suggesting that editing and finishing work are progressing well and the episodes are shaping up nicely.
I’m so excited for Ahsoka Season 2! It’s going to continue right after that shocking ending where Grand Admiral Thrawn came back, leaving Ahsoka and Sabine stranded on Peridia. I heard originally Season 4 of The Mandalorian was supposed to set things up for Ahsoka, but Lucasfilm decided to make a new show focusing on Din and Grogu instead. I’m really curious to see how the Ahsoka team handled that change and how they’ll tie up all the loose ends from Season 1.
3) Star Wars: A New Hope 50th Anniversary Re-Release (February 19, 2027)

In 2027, Star Wars will celebrate its 50th anniversary, and Lucasfilm has exciting plans to mark the occasion. The celebration begins with a return to theaters for A New Hope, the very first Star Wars film. While it’s expected Lucasfilm would re-release the original, it’s a great surprise that they’re showing a restored version of the original 1977 theatrical cut.
Ever since updated versions came out in 1997, the original versions of the classic trilogy have been hard to find – they haven’t been officially released on home video except as extras on a 2006 DVD. While the updated versions included changes some fans didn’t like, many longtime viewers are thrilled to be able to watch the original theatrical cuts again.
4) Star Wars: Starfighter (May 28, 2027)

Just a few months after revisiting classic Star Wars stories, fans will get a look at what’s next for the galaxy. Director Shawn Levy is bringing a new film, Star Wars: Starfighter, to theaters over Memorial Day weekend in 2027. Lucasfilm is keeping the story details secret, but it’s confirmed the movie takes place a few years after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, showing us what happened after the First Order was defeated. Importantly, this is a brand new story and won’t feature any familiar characters from past films.
One of the most appealing aspects of Starfighter is its impressive cast, led by Ryan Gosling, fresh off the huge success of Project Hail Mary. The film also features well-known actors like Amy Adams, Mia Goth, and Matt Smith. While Star Wars usually doesn’t gather a lot of big stars for new films, this project is different, and it’s adding to the excitement around Starfighter.
5) Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord Season 2 (Undated)

Lucasfilm believed Maul – Shadow Lord was going to be a hit, and they greenlit season two before season one even finished airing. Now that the show is out, it’s clear their confidence was justified. Shadow Lord continues Lucasfilm Animation’s knack for expanding the established Star Wars universe with engaging stories and memorable characters. With the way season one concluded, fans are eagerly anticipating the show’s return.
The release date for the next season is still unknown, but actor Sam Witwer has assured fans it shouldn’t be a lengthy wait, as the production team has been consistently working on it. Considering Season 2 of Star Wars: The Bad Batch came out two years after Season 1, a return of Shadow Lord in 2028 is a possibility. However, if production has moved quickly, it could arrive as early as 2027, so fans should stay tuned for updates.
6) Undated Star Wars Movies

Currently, Star Wars: Starfighter is the last confirmed Star Wars film scheduled for release. However, several other movies are in development. It’s unclear which, if any, will actually be made, but Kathleen Kennedy recently discussed the progress of a few of them as she left her position earlier this year.
- Simon Kinberg’s trilogy: Though Lucasfilm “upended” the story, Kennedy has said Filoni and Brennan are “very much onboard with what Simon is doing,” implying this could be the next Star Wars movie project (assuming the script falls into place).
- Taika Waititi’s movie: Kennedy shared that Waititi has finished his long-developing Star Wars movie script (this film was announced in 2020). She said it’s “hilarious and great,” but it’s no longer her call on whether it gets made or not.
- James Mangold’s Dawn of the Jedi: Pitched as a biblical epic exploring the origins of the Force and the Jedi Order, Mangold’s movie has the potential to be one of the most interesting Star Wars movies to date. Unfortunately, it’s currently on hold. Kennedy said the script is “definitely breaking the mold” of what a Star Wars movie can be.
- New Jedi Order: Announced at Star Wars Celebration 2023, New Jedi Order is billed as Daisy Ridley’s return to the franchise. The film’s story would follow Rey as she trains a new generation of Jedi. Sadly, the project has cycled through multiple writers, indicating Lucasfilm is having trouble getting the story just right.
- Donald Glover’s Lando movie: After playing a young Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story, Donald Glover is developing a full Lando spinoff movie. Kennedy has said Glover has turned in a script.
- Dave Filoni’s New Republic movie: Another film announced during Celebration 2023, Dave Filoni was in line to helm a film that would serve as a culmination of storylines from the New Republic era shows. It’s been quiet on this front since, and the fate of the project could depend on how The Mandalorian and Grogu fares.
