Narnia Reboot May Be Netflix’s Most Expensive Movie Ever

In a recent podcast appearance, Matthew Belloni shared that Netflix’s upcoming movie, The Electric State, is expected to be one of the streaming service’s most expensive films ever made. While acknowledging the Russo brothers’ previous record-holder, he indicated this new film could potentially surpass even its $320 million budget.

Even though it cost a fortune to make, Netflix’s The Electric State was poorly received. It only earned a 14% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and received three Golden Raspberry nominations, including Worst Picture. Viewers weren’t impressed either – it had just 59 million views in its first month. This is a significant drop from last year’s KPop Demon Hunters, which garnered over 100 million views in its second month.

If the reports are accurate and The Magician’s Nephew costs more to make than The Electric State, its budget could reach levels similar to big-budget films like Avengers: Infinity War (around $325 million) or Avatar: The Way of Water (around $350 million), depending on the final amount.

Netflix’s new film, The Electric State, wasn’t just their most expensive project to date—it significantly surpassed the budgets of all their other big hits. Previously, The Irishman held the record at $225 million, and films like Red Notice and The Gray Man both cost around $200 million to make. Simply put, The Electric State, along with the upcoming The Magician’s Nephew, was far more expensive than anything else Netflix had produced.
