“I killed my f–king wife for you.”
In a conversation with his girlfriend, Lori Milliron, it was Larry Randolph who spoke the seven words, although he claimed they were misinterpreted. However, these words did not serve as the decisive factor for the jury when determining that Larry had murdered his wife Bianca Randolph in 2016 during a safari trip in Zambia. Instead, other pieces of evidence likely played a more significant role in reaching that verdict.
In the words of Juror 9, or Tony, from the Hulu series Trophy Wife: Murder on Safari, “It was Larry’s own demise.
In the ongoing productions at ABC News Studios, they frequently explore a consistent topic – the murder trial of the ex-Pittsburgh dentist and avid hunter, who continues to claim that his wife’s demise was unintentional.
In an interview with ABC News, the jury foreperson, Amanda, mentioned that several jurors were uncertain before the defendant testified. However, once he took the stand, they shifted their perspective and began to believe he was indeed guilty.
In fact, although Amanda considered the legal work “exceptional,” Larry was still convicted for a foreign murder and received a sentence of life imprisonment.
Defense lawyer David Markus stated in the case of Trophy Wife that the evidence presented was essentially baseless, yet the commotion and publicity surrounding it led to his client’s conviction.
As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but share this news: It turns out that my beloved figure has been sentenced to 17 years due to offenses linked to her actions, which include obstruction and aiding after the fact. The twists and turns in this tale just keep coming!
In the series, I expressed that my intentions were pure and I had no hidden agenda or premeditated plan regarding this matter. I want to emphasize that he is not as villainous as some may perceive him, and neither am I.
Yet many others believe justice was done.
According to Dani Sloane, who spoke exclusively to TopMob News, this isn’t your typical true crime docuseries. Instead, it’s a captivating blend of a dark love triangle and an intricate global murder mystery, featuring over-the-top, eccentric characters that will undoubtedly take viewers on an exhilarating journey.
Buckle up and read on for what to know about the twisted Rudolph murder case:
Lawrence “Larry” Rudolph first encountered Bianca Rudolph while studying dentistry at the University of Pittsburgh. They tied the knot on September 4, 1982, and went on to welcome two children into their family: a son named Julian Rudolph and a daughter named Anabianca Rudolph.
In Pittsburgh, Larry established a thriving dental practice, featuring prominently in advertisements where he reassured patients that visits to the dentist could be less frightening.
As a devoted admirer, I’d put it this way: “In the serene suburban landscape, I resided. My folks, they were a harmonious duo, appearing deeply enamored with one another.
Larry and Bianca were also avid big-game hunters who traveled frequently to Africa.
Lori Milliron went to work at Larry’s practice as a hygienist in 2002.
Lori shared in Trophy Wife, “From the get-go, he began showing interest in me. At first, I hesitated, but eventually, I grew more familiar with him over time.
They started traveling together, Lori said, and “we fell in love, 100 percent.”
She later helped Larry start his Three Rivers Dental Group empire.
Back in 2014, when Larry and his partner Bianca decided to settle down in the sunny city of Phoenix, I couldn’t help but feel a pang of worry. After all, I was an obsessed fan, and I knew that Lori, who had been managing his practice back in Pittsburgh, wouldn’t take a day off – working tirelessly, seven days a week, as she shared in the series.
On the morning of October 11, 2016, around 5 a.m., Bianca and Larry were preparing to head home following their hunting excursion in Zambia’s Kafue National Park. Unfortunately, authorities received a call stating that a woman had accidentally discharged her firearm while preparing it, injuring herself.
According to Senior Investigations Officer Musuwa Musese, Larry stated that he was taking a shower when he came out to discover his wife in a puddle of blood, with a shotgun nearby.
In the series, when I interrogated Larry, it became apparent to me that something suspicious transpired. Additionally, I pointed out that since the hunters’ firearms were inspected and emptied each night, there should be no remaining shells in Bianca’s weapon.
But two days after Bianca’s death, local police ruled it an accident and her body was cremated.
“He was not detained,” Musese said. “I was shocked. He was just a free person.”
Shortly following Bianca’s passing, an acquaintance of hers reached out to the FBI, urging them to delve deeper into the case, and subsequently, additional calls were made.
Typically, information from tipsters can be “not detailed enough,” Special Agent Donald Peterson noted in the series. However, these tips stood out as exceptions.
As a devoted follower, I’d like to share an interesting insight I came across about a study conducted by Special Agent Scott Dahlstrom and himself. This study, known as a “reach study,” aimed to determine if it was feasible for someone with Bianca’s build to pull the trigger of her 12-gauge shotgun in a manner consistent with the wound observed. Interestingly, one tester was able to replicate the action, according to Dahlstrom, but she was exceptionally flexible, being a gymnast with remarkably mobile shoulders.
I too conducted a similar test with the same kind of weapon, soft-cover gun case, and ammunition, as Peterson mentioned, and discovered that the “6-centimeter defect” to Bianca’s heart could have occurred only if the gun was fired from a minimum distance of 2 feet away.
A review of Larry’s financial records revealed that Bianca had excessive insurance coverage, as she held nine distinct insurance policies from seven various firms. This arrangement led to a payout of $4.8 million upon her demise, according to Peterson.
Ever since Bianca’s passing over five years ago, I, a dedicated fan, couldn’t shake off the feeling that justice wasn’t served fully. Fast forward to December 21st, 2021, in Mexico – a country where sun and sand seemed to be the only solace for my troubled heart. That was the day when Larry, whom I had followed relentlessly, was arrested. It was as if fate had finally conspired to bring him into custody, just as he and Lori arrived to celebrate the holidays in beautiful Cabo.
At Larry’s 2022 murder trial, testimony from Bartender Brian Lovelace of Steak 44 in Phoenix was quite surprising.
In the novel “Trophy Wife,” Lori and Larry were frequent visitors, and one evening in the spring of 2020, amidst a pause in the music, Larry exclaimed, “I’ve murdered my wife for you.
During the court proceedings, while the prosecution interpreted Larry’s comment as a confession, his lawyer, David Markus, argued that Larry was expressing surprise upon learning he was under investigation. What Larry had actually said, according to his attorney, was “They’re saying I killed my wife for you,” which Larry meant as an expression of disbelief rather than a confession.
In the show “Trophy Wife”, Markus stated that not only did the Zambians exonerate Larry, but also the life insurance companies did so. He expressed his belief that this was an entirely fabricated case with insufficient evidence, and he felt confident they would emerge victorious.
In his opening remarks, the lawyer stated that instead of relying on “guesswork based on scientific evidence” and “storytelling rather than truth,” the prosecution opted for this approach.
When prosecutors suspected Larry hastily arranged for Bianca’s cremation, Markus mentioned during the documentary, he produced Bianca’s will, specifying her preference for cremation. Regarding the approximately $5 million in insurance claims, Markus explained that Larry deposited the funds into a trust for his children and left it untouched.
Larry was worth millions already and, the lawyer said, “affairs aren’t evidence of murder.”
Speaking in his own defense, Larry asserted that neither he nor anyone else killed Bianca, and he did not confess to the crime. Instead, he explained that he had been engaged in a passionate argument with Lori at the restaurant, while the ongoing FBI investigation was on his mind.
In addition, Larry stated that he and Bianca have been in a non-exclusive relationship since 2000 and were generally content with this setup.
In the TV show “Trophy Wife,” Amanda, the jury foreperson, stated that it was a case where circumstances seemed to point towards someone’s guilt until they took the stand.
Last August, it was determined that Larry had committed murder abroad and made fraudulent insurance claims by submitting fake documents.
In a conversation with the FBI, Three Rivers Dental manager Anna Grimley recounted that Lori indicated to her she’d set Larry a deadline: He was supposed to “eliminate Bianca” within a year. Grimley recalled in the series, mentioning, “In hindsight, I didn’t make any connections.
In the show “Trophy Wife,” Lori expressed, “No ultimatum was given. It wouldn’t be logical for me to wait 15 years before giving one. Such a situation seemed illogical.
Federal prosecutors claim that Lori testified dishonestly during a grand jury hearing in January 2022. Instead of stating that the money Larry supposedly gave her before Bianca’s demise was a gesture of kindness as she had suggested, she failed to disclose that they were involved romantically at the time.
Lori faced charges for five instances of lying under oath, one charge each for obstructing justice and being an accomplice following the crime, as prosecutors claimed that Larry’s statement at the steakhouse served as a confession about killing Bianca, which is why Lori was aware of his actions.
In the trial where Lori stood with Larry, she was cleared of charges related to three instances of lying under oath, but was convicted on all other counts.
In the show, she asserted, “I’m not a violent person,” emphasizing that she hadn’t taken anyone’s life or caused harm. However, despite this, they were trying to imprison her.
In August 2023, Larry, now aged 70, was given a life imprisonment term and also a 20-year sentence that will run concurrently for his actions of swindling various life insurance firms. These fraudulent activities were brought to light by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the District of Colorado, where the insurance payouts were initially disbursed.
He’s currently serving his sentence at the United States Penitentiary located in Terre Haute, Indiana, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
The outcome clearly demonstrates that regardless of wealth, status, or influence, one will face consequences for their criminal actions,” Cole Finegan, U.S. Attorney, stated back then. “Today’s justice was not a mere coincidence.
In June 2023, Lori, aged 67, received a sentence of 17 years. According to the Bureau of Prisons, she is currently housed at the Federal Correctional Institution located in Marianna, Florida.
They are both appealing their convictions.
During a telephone conversation from prison that was featured in the show Trophy Wife, Lori and Larry expressed their apologies to each other. Larry further reassured her, saying, “You didn’t cause any harm. You didn’t deserve this situation.
When Lori said she hoped “it’s not goodbye,” he said it was.
The series noted that the two no longer speak.
In the courtroom during Lori’s sentencing, Anabianca said to her, as reported by the Associated Press, “Lori, you may have taken my parents from me, but nothing you’ve done will ever claim my spirit. I realize this might be hard for you to comprehend… because you don’t possess one.
Julian told ABC News in December 2023 that he “very rarely” took his father’s calls from prison.
Following my mother’s passing, I found myself at my father’s dental practice in Pittsburgh – Three Rivers continued to thrive – while Julian, my brother, was based in Miami, diligently growing his own law firm specializing in personal injury cases and became engaged.
Despite having some “remaining doubts,” Julian asserted that he felt certain his father was innocent before the murder trial took place.
“Every day going into that courtroom,” he said, “I saw something new that broke my heart.”
