Could it be that the era of console exclusivity is nearing its twilight? While Nintendo seems to hold onto this tradition, Sony appears to be on the hunt for a strategic leader to navigate their swiftly changing multi-platform approach.
A position for a leader is available at the main office in San Mateo, seeking an individual to spearhead PlayStation’s investigation into technologies beyond the PS5.
The announcement clearly specifies that the chosen individuals will manage maximizing profitability of titles on multiple digital platforms outside of PlayStation, such as Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox, Nintendo, and mobile devices.

Here’s the specification in full:
As the Senior Director of Multiplatform & Account Management, you will report directly to the Vice President of Commercial Management. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing and executing the global commercial strategy for PS Studios software titles across various digital platforms outside PlayStation hardware, such as Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox, Nintendo, and mobile devices. Your responsibilities include maximizing title profitability, ensuring cross-functional cooperation, and managing a successful team that drives multiplatform expansion, mid-range business planning, and partner management with platform partners.
A bit further on, it mentions that primary duties involve managing the mid-tier commercial strategy for PlayStation Studio games on platforms other than PlayStation, with a focus on increasing long-term income and expanding audience base.
The job responsibilities will extend to fostering cooperative relationships with competitors like Xbox and Nintendo. This includes promoting mutual success, ensuring effective promotions, and optimizing performance.
At this point, Sony has mostly moved away from exclusively offering PS5 games, instead choosing to make most of their titles available on PC as well. They’ve even released LEGO Horizon Adventures on the Nintendo Switch, and have announced plans to bring Helldivers 2 to the Xbox Series X|S.
In a recent conversation, the head of PS Studios, Hermen Hulst, expressed the importance of being careful when moving their franchise titles away from console platforms, as they want to preserve the integrity of their ecosystem without diluting it.
A significant number of PlayStation 5 users are expressing disappointment because they believe the console hasn’t met their expectations, primarily due to a limited selection of exclusive games and the extended period it’s taking for new titles to be developed.
It’s important to note that the new position as described in the ad doesn’t automatically imply a shift from their existing approach. Sony might just be intending to carry on with their current plans.
As a gamer, I can’t help but notice the trend of games originally designed for PlayStation consoles showing up on rival platforms at an increasing pace. It’s starting to seem like it’s only a matter of time before we see PS Studios titles popping up everywhere.
For clarity, let me rephrase that for you: It’s yet unknown how this will affect PlayStation overall, and specifically the sales of the PS6.
