This Long-Awaited Game From the Developers of Shovel Knight Is Finally Releasing

Okay, so I’ve been waiting ages for this! Yacht Club Games, the folks behind Shovel Knight – seriously, that game is amazing – finally announced a release date for their new game. They first put out Shovel Knight way back in 2014, and they’ve kept adding to it with expansions and spin-offs ever since. Their last big thing was Shovel Knight Dig in 2022, and that’s when they first teased this new project. We’ve only seen a tiny little snippet since then, but it looks like we’re finally getting more info and a launch date soon! I’m super hyped!

Okay, so huge news! Yacht Club Games just announced that Mina the Hollower is dropping on May 29th, 2026! It’s a little sudden, which is awesome for those of us who’ve been dying to play it. Honestly, this game has been in the works for ages. I remember seeing the first little tease back in February 2022 on X – they described it as a spooky action adventure with that cool retro 8-bit look of the Game Boy Color, but updated for today. After years of waiting, it’s finally happening! I can’t wait to get my hands on Mina the Hollower.

Mina the Hollower Will Release on May 29, 2026

While sharing a similar retro 8-bit art style with Shovel Knight, Mina the Hollower is a much more intense and spooky game. It’s an adventure game with RPG elements, like those found in the classic Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, where you improve your character’s abilities. You play as Mina, a character who wields a whip, and explore the mysterious Tenebrous Isle. She’s on a mission to restore power to the island after its generators fail, battling various monsters along the way.

The game draws inspiration from classic titles like the Zelda and Castlevania series, particularly Zelda‘s overhead view. It has a strong horror element, filled with monsters roaming a mysterious island. Players control Mina, who has the unique ability to dig underground, helping her overcome challenges in both battles and puzzles. Tenebrous Isle is packed with dungeons and areas to discover as you follow Mina’s story. However, Yacht Club Games is keeping many details under wraps until the game’s release.

Mina the Hollower started as a successful Kickstarter project in 2022. Those who supported the game on Kickstarter were the first to find out when it would be released. Now, the release date has been announced for everyone: Mina the Hollower will be available in under three weeks! You can play it on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, PC, and the new Nintendo Switch 2, and it will cost $19.99.
