EastEnders confirms major blood cancer storyline for Denise Fox to last into 2027

EastEnders is preparing a difficult storyline for Denise Fox, revealing she’ll be diagnosed with a type of blood cancer.

I’ve been watching the show closely, and something’s been off with Diane Parish’s character lately. She’s been visibly exhausted in the recent episodes, and it’s been worrying. Thankfully, Kim Mitchell noticed and finally convinced her to go see a doctor. It’s a smart move for the storyline, and I’m definitely intrigued to see what the diagnosis reveals.

Later this month, viewers will learn that Denise has been diagnosed with a serious type of leukemia. This storyline will continue throughout the rest of the year and into 2027, showing how the illness affects Denise and her loved ones.

The soap opera has been collaborating with Blood Cancer UK to make sure the storyline is portrayed realistically and with care.

Ben Wadey, the executive producer of EastEnders, explained that it was very important to them to handle Denise’s storyline with sensitivity and accuracy. He said they appreciated the guidance from Blood Cancer UK in ensuring the story was told correctly.

We want to share Denise’s story to show what it’s really like to be diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, and how it affects not only her, but also her loved ones.

Helen Rowntree, the CEO of Blood Cancer UK, said it was a great experience to work with the EastEnders team, helping them create a storyline for Denise that accurately portrays what it’s like to live with and care for someone with blood cancer.

Blood cancers, such as leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma, affect people from all walks of life. However, the challenges and results of these cancers can be quite different, and are often impacted by a person’s ethnic background.

Facing an aggressive blood cancer like acute myeloid leukemia is hard enough, but being Black can add even more difficulties. We hope this helps people better understand the challenges of blood cancer, and we’re glad this important issue is getting attention, making a cancer that often goes unnoticed more visible.

As fans may remember, Denise wasn’t shown in the episode that jumped ahead one year to New Year’s Day. The episode suggested she had a fight with her partner, Jack Branning (Scott Maslen), and stormed out of their house in a rage.

He nervously twisted the ring on his finger. His niece, Lauren Beale (Jacqueline Jossa), encouraged him to look at his baby, Ethan, who was sleeping in a Moses basket across the room.

It seems this is probably his grandson, as his daughter, Penny Castledine, recently announced she’s pregnant.

Later in the show, Denise was considered as a possible wife for Max, Jack’s brother. When Max was arrested, threatening their potential wedding, Jack promised to update the bride on the situation.

Linda Carter, Cindy Beale, and Chelsea Fox all got phone calls. Meanwhile, Patrick Trueman and Libby Fox noticed Denise’s phone was ringing while they were in the dining room.

Could Denise’s diagnosis be what brings Libby home?
