Coronation Street airs new storyline for troubled Daniel Osbourne in early ITVX release

I’ve been watching Daniel Osbourne on Coronation Street lately, and honestly, you can really see the strain of everything he’s been through. Rob Mallard is doing a fantastic job showing how all the recent hardship is finally getting to him – it’s a really compelling performance and it’s clear we’re seeing the emotional weight take its toll.

The trouble started when Sam Blakeman told someone he was worried about the connection between Daniel’s girlfriend, Megan Walsh, and a young boy named Will Driscoll. Police quickly arrived at Weatherfield High and arrested Megan.

Daniel couldn’t believe what he was hearing, but Megan firmly convinced him that nothing bad had happened. She explained that she had rejected Will’s flirtations, and he had reacted with jealousy.

During his investigation, Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) questioned Daniel at the police station, hoping Daniel could offer some insight or share any suspicions he might have. Daniel firmly believed his girlfriend had always acted professionally with her students, and he assured the detective of this.

Megan was pregnant and wanted the police to believe Daniel was the father, claiming she hadn’t told him because she worried he wasn’t prepared to have another child. Kit suggested a DNA test was the only way to prove she was telling the truth, but lawyer Adam Barlow pointed out they couldn’t make her take one.

Megan stayed firm, and said that she wouldn’t do it as she had nothing to hide.

Okay, let me tell you, the scene where Daniel finds out Eva’s pregnant? Absolutely gut-wrenching. You could feel the floor disappear from under him. He immediately raced to the hotel, desperate to get her to do a DNA test, but she flat-out refused. It was a shocking moment, and honestly, I didn’t see that refusal coming – it really upped the tension!

He made it clear their relationship was finished unless she confessed. Daniel was also upset that his uncle, Adam, was supporting Megan, and he believed her silence proved she was guilty.

Ever since Megan and Will became a couple, Daniel realized others at school know he’s been involved with her too. Earlier this week, Hope Dobbs – after Daniel accused her of using AI for her homework – made a pointedly rude remark to him.

When she didn’t want to finish the task during her break, she went into the hallway and, leaning against a friend, wrote a disturbing poem accusing Daniel of being involved with someone who harmed children. He was understandably angry and immediately took the pen and paper from her.

Hope claimed Daniel attacked her, and in today’s episode, he learned that the school principal, Mrs. Crawshaw (Carla Mendonça), had suspended him as a result. He’ll be away from work for a while.

Ken Barlow volunteered to look after Bertie for the day, but when he brought him back to Daniel’s flat, he found Daniel very upset. Daniel angrily confronted Adam, explaining he felt overwhelmed and didn’t know how to handle the situation.

That afternoon, Daniel left Bertie with Ken at number one. He needed some time to himself to think things through, so he’d booked a room at a bed and breakfast in the Lake District and planned to come back when he was feeling more positive.

It quickly became obvious that wasn’t true. Returning to his apartment, Daniel shut all the curtains and started drinking a bottle of whisky.

Will anyone realise just how much he’s struggling?
