The MCU Just Introduced Its Answer to The Flash

Characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe aren’t typically recognized for their speed. While they do have a couple of speedsters like Quicksilver from “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and Makarri from “Eternals,” they seldom get chances to demonstrate their full potential. Instead, the attention is often on characters who can deal heavy blows, such as Thor and Hulk, or those with exceptional intellects, like Tony Stark and Shuri. The upcoming series “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” introduces a new genius in Reed Richards, who usually tackles global issues because he’s the one best suited to do so. However, there’s one mystery in “First Steps” that even he can’t crack.

Following four tranquil years on Earth, I found ourselves jolted from our peaceful slumber with the arrival of the enigmatic Silver Surfer in New York City, delivering a grim warning about Galactus, the World Devourer. Hearing about her boss sends shivers down my spine, as she’s capable of eradicating entire civilizations effortlessly. What’s more, the Silver Surfer herself is no ordinary being – she might just be the fastest character the Marvel Cinematic Universe has ever seen and could very well stand shoulder-to-shoulder with DC Comics’ The Flash.

Silver Surfer Gives the Fantastic Four a Run for Their Money in First Steps

Immediately after the Silver Surfer delivers her message, she’s prepared to depart. She soars away on her board, and the Human Torch pursues her due to curiosity. It takes the Torch a moment to catch up, but he soon realizes that his new crush isn’t interested in casual conversation. The Silver Surfer then vanishes, reappearing only when Marvel’s First Family reaches Galactus’ spaceship, ready for negotiations with the World Devourer. However, talks with Galactus quickly deteriorate when he demands Mister Fantastic and Invisible Woman’s child as a condition to save Earth. This forces the team into a hasty retreat. Yet, they cannot shake off the Silver Surfer, as her immense power enables her to trail them through a wormhole. The only way they manage to get rid of her is by casting her into a star.

After failing Galactus, the Silver Surfer transforms into a woman on a quest and swiftly circles the Earth, causing significant damage to the transportation bridges vital to human teleportation. With this task accomplished, she targets Franklin Richards, coming close but not quite reaching him. However, Johnny Storm manages to reach her with a message from her own people, expressing gratitude for her past heroics. This heartwarming communication sparks a change in the Silver Surfer, potentially paving the way for momentous events ahead.

The MCU Probably Hasn’t Seen the Last of the Silver Surfer

When Galactus appears on Earth, he displays his immense power. Despite the Fantastic Four’s valiant attempts, he refuses to pass through the portal into another part of the cosmos and seems determined to seize Franklin for good. Fortunately, the Silver Surfer intervenes, pushing Galactus through the portal, thus eliminating the danger to Earth. However, since she also goes through the portal, it’s likely that she will engage in a fierce battle once Galactus regains his senses. If she manages to endure and hold onto her board, she is certain to have a significant impact on the Marvel Cinematic Universe going forward. Indeed, there are not many characters who possess her unique blend of speed and strength.

In the universe where Earth-828 exists, information about the ominous galactic dangers is scant. However, the galaxy inhabited by Earth-616 teems with such threats. Captain Marvel dedicates decades to resolving crises on various planets, yet barely makes a significant impact. If the Silver Surfer were out there among the stars, though, situations could be drastically altered. He could arrive at a planet in an instant and incapacitate a villain before they even notice. Characters like The Flash from DC Comics are known for this ability, and it’s high time the MCU introduced a speedster capable of shifting the balance in crucial conflicts.
