Nintendo has announced that the next Nintendo Switch will cost more than the current model worldwide. However, you can still buy the original Switch at its current price if you act quickly and want to save money.
You’ve likely seen prices increasing on everyday things – from home utilities to digital storage – and there are several factors contributing to this, including global events and the growing need for resources to power artificial intelligence.
Nintendo isn’t alone in facing this unfortunate situation. PlayStation previously announced price increases for the PS5, and it’s become very expensive to buy components for PCs due to shortages.
It’s unfortunate, but not unexpected, that Nintendo is increasing the price of the Switch 2. The big question now is: how much will the price increase be in different countries, and when will the new pricing go into effect?
In the US, the Nintendo Switch price will go up to $499.99, having previously been $449.99.
In Japan, the price of the system in Japanese will increase from ¥49,980 to ¥59,980.
In Canada, the new price is $679.99, and the old one was $629.99.
In Europe, the new price is €499.99, up from €469.99.

The price increase in the UK hasn’t been officially announced yet. Right now, the Nintendo website lists the price at £395.99, but the new price is still unknown.
We contacted Nintendo for a statement, and they said they will announce the new price of the Nintendo Switch 2 in other European currencies soon.
We expect the price to go up by around £40 to £50, but this is just an estimate at this point.
We want to let you know that new prices will start on September 1, 2026. That gives you a few months to save and buy anything you need before the prices go up.
Just a quick reminder that the Switch 2 is now available for purchase at many stores! You can buy it directly from Nintendo, or from retailers such as Amazon and Currys, where it’s currently priced at £385.
Waiting until Christmas to make a purchase might not be the best way to save money right now. But I’m no financial expert, so take that with a grain of salt!
I’m so hyped for the Switch 2! It looks like we’re getting some amazing games, like a new Pokémon title – Pokémon Winds and Waves – plus a Star Fox game and even a James Bond game called 007 First Light. Hopefully, even with the cost of the new console, there will be something for everyone to enjoy!
