Ridley Scott’s Hit Horror Series Is Officially A #1 American Streaming Sensation

Ridley Scott’s new show has scared its way up the streaming charts.

Ridley Scott is a highly respected and long-standing director in Hollywood, known for iconic films like Alien (1979), Blade Runner (1982), Gladiator (2000), and Black Hawk Down (2001). While he continues to direct, recently releasing Gladiator 2 (2024), Scott is now even busier as a producer, expanding into television as well as film.

Scott’s latest project as an executive producer, The Terror: Devil in Silver, is currently a huge hit on AMC+, becoming the platform’s most-watched show in the U.S. This original horror series has surpassed popular titles like Tales from the Crypt, The Audacity, Dark Winds, The Bourne Identity, and I Am Legend in viewership.

The third season of the horror anthology series The Terror, titled Devil in Silver, comes from writer Victor LaValle and screenwriter Chris Cantwell. The show, which began in 2018, previously told the story of a disastrous Arctic expedition in its first season and a haunted Japanese-American community during World War II in its second. This season focuses on a man who comes face-to-face with a sinister force after being unfairly placed in a run-down mental hospital.

The second season of The Terror, which premiered on May 7th, is based on Victor LaValle’s 2012 novel, The Devil in Silver. The season has six episodes and stars Dan Stevens as Pepper, alongside Judith Light, CCH Pounder, Chinaza Uche, and Stephen Root.

The AMC+ series has been well-received by critics since it began. As of today, its first season has a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the second season has 80%, and the third season also boasts a 94% score. Reviewers often praise the show’s immersive atmosphere, along with strong acting and thought-provoking storylines.

In a review for ScreenRant, Dani Kessel Odom gave the latest season of The Terror: Devil in Silver a 7 out of 10. While the plot felt rushed at times, Odom praised the show’s creepy hospital setting, well-developed supporting characters, and overall technical skill, calling the new episodes genuinely chilling.

I was genuinely creeped out by how Devil in Silver builds its terror. It really leans into sound – things like scratching noises and distorted audio – to get under your skin. And the way it’s filmed is brilliant. They use slow zooms and these really long shots of the hospital hallways, which somehow makes it feel both incredibly cramped and like it goes on forever. It’s super effective!

With Devil in Silver, Scott continues to expand his work in television. He’s previously executive produced several shows, including Alien: Earth (which has been renewed for a second season), Dope Thief, Great Expectations, and Raised by Wolves. He’s also set to executive produce the new Blade Runner 2099 series.

Scott’s next film as director is The Dog Stars, a thrilling post-apocalyptic story with Jacob Elordi, Josh Brolin, and Margaret Qualley. Following his work on the Gladiator sequel, this movie will be released in theaters on August 28th.

Fans eager for more from director Scott will have to wait a bit longer, but it’s clear that The Terror: Devil in Silver is resonating with audiences. While it’s currently unknown if the show will be renewed for a fourth season, all six episodes of the latest season – along with seasons one and two – are now available to stream on AMC+.
