Apple TV’s new 10-episode thriller is packed with action and suspense, drawing comparisons to shows like Sicario and Narcos. It’s ideal for watching all at once. While Apple TV has been gaining ground with sci-fi, comedy, and horror series, it hasn’t had many standout action thrillers – until now.
The streaming service offers several action-packed options, including Criminal Record, The Mosquito Coast, The Last Frontier, and Hijack. One of its thrillers feels similar to shows like Narcos or films like Sicario, immersing viewers in the complex world of modern military operations and international crime. These shows are full of suspense and raise tough questions about intervention and how we handle global issues.
I was completely hooked by Echo 3! It’s a thrilling series from 2022, and I found myself really invested in the story of Eric “Prince” Haas, played by Michael Huisman, and Luke Evans as Alex “Bambi” Chesborough. They’re both Delta Force operators, and the show follows their dangerous mission to rescue Amber Chesborough, a scientist researching a potential breakthrough in addiction treatment using psychedelics, after she’s kidnapped in Colombia. It’s a really gripping watch!
Bambi is her brother, and Prince is her husband, but their relationship has always been difficult, especially since their boss recently passed away. Similar to the movie Sicario, the series Echo 3 throws its characters into the dangerous and unpredictable world of drug trafficking, and they struggle to survive.
If you enjoyed Narcos, you’ll likely love Echo 3. It’s another exciting, lengthy story about soldiers on a mission in South America, packed with the same intense action. With just 10 episodes, it’s a fast-paced and enjoyable watch for anyone who wants a thrilling adventure in a well-known world.
Why Echo 3 Stands Out As An Action Thriller
The new series Echo 3 is based on the popular Israeli show When Heroes Fly, which originally came from a novel by Amir Gutfreund. While it currently has a 67% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Echo 3 offers something a little different from typical action series.
The beginning of Echo 3 might remind you of other shows about military missions, but around episode four, the story takes a unique turn. That’s when Echo 3 really shines, making it a series you’ll want to watch all at once.
| Echo 3 Episodes | |
|---|---|
| Episode | Title |
| 1 | Flyaway |
| 2 | Tora Bora in the City |
| 3 | The Gambler |
| 4 | Upriver |
| 5 | We Reject Your Influence |
| 6 | Habeas Thumpus |
| 7 | Red Is Positive, Black Is Negative |
| 8 | Family Matters |
| 9 | Scorched Earth |
| 10 | Heat |
Bambi and Prince initially appear to be the heroes of the story. When they bravely attempt to take Bogotá in a fast-paced and well-shot action scene, you’d expect them to succeed. However, their efforts actually backfire and make the situation worse, suggesting that love isn’t always enough to conquer overwhelming challenges in reality.
Echo 3 doesn’t suggest that American military strength or the soldiers’ skills will ultimately save the day. The main characters – Prince, Bambi, and Amber – are in a truly dangerous situation, and each episode ratchets up the tension, leaving viewers questioning how they’ll ever get out.
Echo 3 is a raw and realistic portrayal of how easily things can go wrong, and how the complicated relationships between power, money, and politics can turn supposed allies into obstacles. Created by Mark Boal, who also wrote and produced acclaimed films like The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty, this show offers a similarly critical perspective – it doesn’t shy away from questioning even those who seem like heroes.
